Installation of 90 degree oil filter adapter on 1FZFE

I have one on order the B50 , living in Perth Australia I will probably have to wait a while for delivery I purchased from American company, in the mean time I’m hoping someone who has already purchased can recommend a appropriate filter to suit the 1fzfe but with the M22 -1.5 thread.

It seems like there is a replacement part, made from billet aluminum.
Did anyone try it yet?
Start on post #93 of this thread. The threads for the B50 do not match the OEM filters. It can be fixed with a custom bit but that adds to the cost.

I'm certainly not a purist but I did purchase a bunch of Mobil1 filters for the 80 many moons ago.

I've run Motorcraft FL1A on my 80 series for the past 18 yrs. 320K on the engine now. They do just fine and I can find them anywhere.

Thanks to @hogan646 and his connections! We had the nipple machined to fit oem filter. Old threads were entirely removed and new threads made.
Find a local machine shop and have them modify the one side of the nipple.

Finally had my 90 degree filter adapter delivered , well engineered part from Ford with easy installation unfortunately thou no change in startup rattle for my 1fzfe. Tried 3 different filters , I have taken off now and gone with small filter straight to motor. I found it somewhat difficult changing filters from under car with adapter due to the sway bar and axel being directly underneath. I now just double start car from cold , turn key on and off so engine turns over but doesn’t start then a five seconds later start car with no rattle. Motor never rattled on start up till after I had it reconditioned.

I was able to get my hands on the discontinued version of this adapter. Part #M-6880-A50. I bench compared it to the new version part #M-6880-B50. Overall the new updated adapter is a better quality product. An advantage is the no-offset allowing for more vertical placement. Once installed I will followup with my observations.

Generation 1 (M-6880-A50)
- Cast aluminum body.
- Rough ends on most parts that will need you to file down.
- Steel oil nipple with correct threads for filter (3/4" - 16).
- Steel nipple has a small internal cross section compared to second generation. ~11mm Allen vs 14mm Allen.
- Steel banjo bolt with straight drilled passage holes.
- Filter is offset by about 18mm (0.71") to the left off center from banjo bolt.
- Single filter passage

Generation 2 (M-6880-B50)
- Machined aluminum body.
- Clean edges on all parts.
- Steel oil nipple with wrong threads for filter (M22 - 1.5). Will require correct adapter or different filter.
- Steel nipple has a larger cross section compared to first generation. 14mm Allen vs ~11mm Allen.
- Aluminum banjo bolt with countersunk and clean holes.
- Filter is in plane with the existing filter location.
- 2 oil filter passages that are smooth and wide.

Nicely done Sir!

Nice comparison. Good that the new improved version fixes some of the issues we discussed with the old model adapter. Makes you wonder if someone at FORD might've read this thread before the redesign??

If so......
You KNOW it wasn't one of the 'bean counters'. ;)

Inspirational thread. Newer Ford adapter w/FL-500S looked vertical to me wedged behind the PS pump. Hand-tight some trace seepage, then a Steelman 97367 30Flute cap wrench helped tighten further, so far so good. I try to stay Genuine Toyota, though the base-side bypass valve on the FL-500S got me. Just installed one of these blue beauties myself with the Motorcraft FL-500S filter. It JUUUUUUUSSST fits in there. I had to bend the bracket for the electrical connector on the pan a smidgen but there's about 1/4" on either side of the filter now. I'll refer to @Tonkaboy's excellent photos. It was a pleasure removing my last horizontal, leaky filter. I'm actually looking forward to the next oil change!

Yep now you can take a plastic bag, get the filter started then cover the filter with the bag and unscrew it. No mess, no fuss.
