I'm a 40 guy, but I had to share these tune up pics, with Q's

Was told that head gasket was blown, holds 18 pounds for over an hour. Nice little fuel leak at the rear of intake area that appears to be a valve of sorts. Has a solid miss, so I pulled the plugs, air cleaner and cap and about s***!

Replaced it all tonight, runs waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better but not as it should. Does this fuel leak drop that much pressure to not fire the injectors correctly?

Also truck has sat for the last 6 months.

It will be getting timing belt, belts, WP, T-stat, Cam seals, front main, valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets as most are leaking at a good rate.......................

Any solid tips other that pulling the intake to replace that unit on the back of the fuel rail.

Best,

Shane

Shane,

If I was in there anyway, I would have the injectors cleaned and balanced. Looks like someone didn't believe in PM!

That was my plans this morning to call DR. Injector. $18 each to have them done.....

Looks like you are on your way to a serious baseline PM on that truck. Looks like it needs it bad.

You'll need a new gasket for the intake plenum, but you probably knew that. Check the harness for the knock sensor, they can go bad and cause problems, there's a SSC campaign on this.

If it were me, I'd also adjust the valves. That's a job that will really teach you to hate this engine...

The pressure damper on the back of the fuel rail that was leaking.......It was because the little screw backed out and dropped into the plastic cover. WTF?

Had the rails and injectors picked up this morning by DR Injector of Oregon. and he's on his way back with them now......all below what they should have been.

You buy a new Damper?

Little history, she sat for 8 months and had a high idle when we started it at about 1,200 rpms.

Did Timing belt, WP, plugs, air filter, fuel injectors, wires, cap, rotor, front main seal, #4 exhaust seat, recall for steering arm and still have high idle.......I cleaned the IA vavle that what I think is part of the throttle body on the bottom ans still nothing. Timing is dead on.

Ideas?

NO intake leaks anyplace, runs hard! Thing will power brake with no effort.....

Nothing definitive but it did occur to me in re-reading all the posts that you should probably replace the O2 sensor. Someone else will have to verify if that could cause a high idle or not.

Really?

Now that I would have never thought.

But no CEL, that only due to the year and not being able to read it?

Don't misunderstand me. It looked like you were doing a lot of PM but hadn't included a new O2 sensor. I've seen CDan and others mention that after 80k to 100k that you should replace the O2 sensor. That's why I mentioned it but more as a PM and not really in reference to the high idle.

I freely admit that I don't know whether or not a bad O2 reading can cause a high idle.

At this point I am open to all suggestions.........

In my experience a bad OX senser causes the truck to run poor and stumble.

Have you looked at the dash pot on the side of the throttle body and make sure it's not too tight.

[highjack on]

BTW Shane. Awhile back I bought a 5-speed shifter instruction plate for my FJ40 from you. That is one serious piece of bling. THANKS!

I will check this pot out....
