I wish I would have joined the forum before I bought my cruiser. oh well.
I already spread the rust disease to other people. Got my buddy to fly to Phoenix to pick up a 100% rust free older used car. I think he’s finally seen the light. He said “after this I’m never buying another used car from Illinois again”. And when the Lexus techs at my brother’s dealership see my car in for service they say they all want to move to California (where I bought it), because every nut and bolt just comes loose by hand, not the rusty crap they deal with on a daily basis.

Alright, it's officially for sale here: For Sale - UT: 2001 Lexus LX470 Offroad/Overland Build

Maybe. If I can find a clean one to replace it. But I'll probably transfer over all the parts and it'll just be stock at that point

Well s***, you really jumped to a conclusion there, huh?

If you get your price (which BTW I hope you do), what's the plan? Start from scratch with another 100 or move to something else?

Best of luck with the sale. I think you'll do well with it.

Thanks man. I hope so too. The options at the moment are find a clean white 100 and build a 105 clone, move up to a 200, or lease a Gladiator and see if the FCA reputation is true. Then probably get back into a land cruiser in 3 years. (maybe sooner. ha.)

I decided it would be easier to sell this in one piece than to transfer everything over. If I do build a 105 I'll start with axles and work up to bumpers eventually.

The Gladiators look awesome on some 37s. I've yet to see how they do on a trail yet. Friend of a friend just got one, so maybe I'll get to check it out soon.

I do understand the want for a solid front axle. I'm reminded every time I wheel with my buddies in their 80s. I just can't give up my power-mirror-fold-in-button, though.

SAS must be in the future.

Good luck man! Your truck's been an inspiration for a lot of people here. I'm sure your next one will be even better.

Ha, that buffed out real nice. It looks like a great rig. Don't you want to keep it now after its all cleaned up and you put all that time, money and memories in it? GLWTS and good luck to the buyer too. What an awesome Fun Havin' Machine.

I wish! Actually related to function not form. I mainly want a cruiser so I don't have to deal with AHC again. But essentially it's the bones of my truck. The rust isn't the worst but it's been bugging me for a while - I need to repair some rust in my rear quarter panel that's been letting dust into the cabin. Also my AC is out again, and this will be the 4th time fixing it. Again, a rust issue with leaks in lines. So if I can just start over with a rust free 100, that would be ideal. Otherwise I'll just keep slapping on the band-aids and keep on driving.

Wow! That escalated quickly! I am in a very similar boat - mine has a ton or preventative maintenance and expensive upgrades but the body rust is relentless. Of course mine isn't pretty either which means my only option is to drive into the ground.
Best of luck in your sale.

I know, I know. I'm going to look at a couple local 100s for sale tomorrow. One is from the LC museum and another only has 70K miles. But it won't be the end of the world if I get to keep this.

Yup. Which really isn't a bad option because trucks only get beat up going off road, no sense in doing that to a newer cleaner truck I suppose. The only thing that makes me want to start over is to make sure it'll still be solid in 15 years when my kids can drive it to high school.

You should be grateful to have a friend like that. I don’t even want to post how much my shop would charge to correct an LX in that kind of condition! Came out great!

Had a friend help with some cleaning and polishing this week.

Looks much better than before, if you remember this:

Does your detail friend want more work? I have a paint job that looks almost exactly like yours... Very serious.:)

Dude I know! Ended up taking almost 2 days of work between washing, clay bar, polish and ceramic coating. Turned out incredibly well.

I mentioned it to him and he might be interested. Long story short he shoots photos for a big detail brand and doesn't detail full time - but he always needs cars to clean and shoot, depending on what his company is looking for. Sounds like they'll be doing a big offroad marketing push this year though.

Anyway, hit him up on Instagram:

Got some awesome photos from my buddy Sam Hurly. He needed some cruisers for an offroad photoshoot so we ran up AF canyon a couple weeks ago -

Dang, I had to take a moment of silence when I saw you list your Cruiser. You’re journey, build and photography have always been a favorite of mine. I’m gonna have to stalk you over in the 200 forum if you go that way.

That rock garden looks pretty fun. I imagine being slick, the lockers were probably pretty useful.

Truck looks good. Have you had bites on it yet?

Yeah real fun. Lockers were definitely helpful. It's usually not that difficult - but I hadn't been up there in probably 3 years and it's gotten rutted and dug out.

A few. Some trade offers, and have a couple guys who want to check it out this week.

Thanks man! Still haven't decided what's next but a 200 would be awesome.

Dang Sam is a good photographer. He just recently shot my buddies trio of VW's for a special thing. I have wanted to check that trail out but when I saw it last year I turned right around and figured it was beyond my driving level and truck level. I need to get my side steps removed and add some step sliders before I tackle it. I have heard that some can get through that spot with 33's.

Yeah he's real good. I need to bring him on all my trips, ha.

I'd say sliders are a must. I bet you could get by on 33s if it was dry - the mud made it a little more difficult.

The Turtle Wax ads my buddy shot turned out cool.

Had a buyer lined up to fly in this weekend so I enlisted some help to get it all cleaned up

But he wasn't able to sell his car so the sale fell through. I've got an order placed for a white 2020 Tacoma TRD Offroad with a 6 speed manual.. should be here by October. Apparently COVID has done some strange stuff to the supply chain - there were only 4 Tacomas at the local dealer where they usually have more than a hundred.

I may just end up keeping the cruiser and making it a dedicated camping and offroading truck so I don't have to burn through mud tires and keep the Tacoma mild as a daily. Apart from a small lift of course, and maybe wheels and tires, and a new grille.. you know how it goes. Anyway, I think I'm going to get rid of my M3 instead so I can keep the 100 - anyone in the market for an E36 M3??
