Well the louvers that was cut into my son's LX- not sure if it helped with heat soaked engine bay. I already have the hood risers but I don't have a sensor to measure the temp inside the engine.
The ambient temp was above 101 last week and over the mountain passes (7k to 11k) elevation my ECT peaked at 200° and my IAT at 145°. I could imagine how hot the engine bay was......i def need a stainless dorkel to bring tha IAT down and the Aussie 79 hood would prob help a lot more

Have you thought of adding a temp sensor inside the engine bay? Where should it be placed? I'm thinking of installing one to my 93 Turbo.

Hm I'm not sure. Diesels seem to run cooler and I haven't really had issues with heat tbh. I wonder if anyone has done any testing with a hood scoop to see if that can help reduce temps. Maybe if you mounted a fan underneath instead of an intercooler?

Drilled the clutch pedal/MC mounting holes via a template lent to me by @logicbyondreaso. I believe he got it from OTC

Had to cut off this small stud on the interior:

Installed the pedal. Just held in place with the top bolt for now. Still need to bench bleed the MC.

And I figured you know what, I've come this far, let's pull the dash reinforcement bar.

Tell ya what, it's so easy to work under the dash when there is no dash. haha

I'm going to refresh the AC evaporator core, so I figured why not refresh the heater core while I'm in here. I wish I could buy one new but they seem to be out of stock. There's a layer of grime and sticky dust on everything under the dash, including all the vents and the blower assembly so I'll be working on a deep clean.

I also considered running my GMRS antenna through the stock AM/FM antenna route but it's just too difficult to get to, even with the dash removed. I could probably do it with the blower assembly removed but in the future it would be impossible to repair/replace.

For now I'm just deleting the AM/FM antenna. Haven't used it in 2 years and I doubt I'll ever need it.

Also I picked up a $100 FB marketplace deal on this tailgate and upper hatch. It's a little bit rustier than I had hoped so I'm not sure yet if I'll use it but it never hurts to have some spare parts.

I also got some sample colors from a marine vinyl company. I'm leaning toward this color, "Coffee" for the dash. It's not an exact match, little less brown, little more gray, but it's close. While I'm at it I might do the upper door card cushions and the center console box lid so it all matches.

Generally a car will pull timing based on high IAT or iat2 depending on sensor configuration. Iat should be in or as close to the air box as possible for accurate reading of what temp the engine is ingesting. If the engine can't account for air temp there's little reason to monitor.

Poke some weed eater cord through the grommet from the engine bay side, feed enough through the hole and you'll be able to grab it inside the cab and pull it through eventually.
I've fed auxiliary power cable through the same grommet a couple of times, its easy enough. Use some cable lube while pulling new cable through so you don't tear the grommet.

Yanked the windshield, back window and headliner today with the help of a friend. Small amount of surface rust forming underneath the windshield seal where there wasn't glue and it let some water in. Other than that, looking good.

I didn't realize the diesel and gasser A/C lines were interchangeable, just assumed the compressor location would be different. Looks like I too will be relocating my drier to the battery box in the near future, thanks!
You can read up a little more here: relocating AC dryer with factory stuff .... Eddited content and instructions - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/relocating-ac-dryer-with-factory-stuff-eddited-content-and-instructions.1051698/

The locations are the same but R12 fittings are different from the R134 fittings so there is a little extra work involved

Pulled the sunroof today. Honestly might weld in a sunroof delete panel, I never use it and it would be nice to get rid of some weight and complexity.

Pulled the intercooler and AC condenser to get easy access to the crankshaft pulley/harmonic balancer.

If you do go with a filler panel for the sunroof, I'd love to see the process. I too would like to make my sunroof disappear.

Check out my recent threads. I just did this on my 80, trying to duplicate the stock roof reinforcement and a new non-sunroof headliner.

Great info, thanks for sharing!

To pull the sunroof…..does the headliner have to be pulled? I don’t have the firm headliner like you do, mine is cloth.

I liked the sunroof in mine, but didn't like the reduction in headroom. It was great at getting hot air out of the truck on a summer day.

Current 80 has no sunroof, and there is a good 1½ inches or more extra headroom

It does in my late model (96) 80. Pulling the headliner isn’t a big deal on the later models but I’ve tried and failed twice in trying to get my sunroof to operate correctly.
