I painted two hoods. Help me choose a color.

Hi All,

I'm between these two colors for my 72. The hood on the left is Rustoleum Smoke Grey from the turbo can and the one on the right is Rustoleum satin Fossil. The grey would get a 2k clearcoat. This is just for decision purposes, The final paint job would be much nicer as I didn't prep either hood beyond hosing them off and shooting them. I shot right over peeling paint, rust, dirt etc. I keep going back and forth between the two. What say you?

Both nice colors, but clear coat on that Fossil color would be awesome (if that is also an option).

You might start to gets waves from the jeep crowd with that gray color (jk)

I was thinking of that too. I might clearcoat half of the Fossil hood later today and see what it looks like. I'll post a picture if I do.

Depends on the trim I think. Grey looks nice with black rims, etc. Fossil looks nice with factory rims, factory chrome, etc.

I've never been a fan of satin myself: looks like you ran out of time and never covered the primer or basecoat.

Couple of comments. 2k clear can make any imperfections in body work stand out. Its perhaps better to shoot the clear on top of the color within 12 hours for chemical bonding purposes. Perhaps, even better better if the base and clear are engineered to be painted together (e.g. same paint line).

Both are nice colors depending on how you dress out your LC. Interior, rims, top if it’s an FST. I’m a fan of the earth tone LC’s, they’re iconic. The grey has potential though. You can do a lot of things with nonstandard color combos.

Good points! the trim (wheels, bumpers, flares) will be black. The top cap will be the standard white. The bezel I think would look better in white with the satin fossil color but might be cool in gloss black with the gloss grey.

A non white bezel is sacrilege

I'm somewhat particular to gray...
