How Many FJ55s still on the road in USA ?

kinda impossible to know really, unless you can "hack into the dmv main-frame" (movie quote). The only true number that can be known (even with dmv access) is how many are registered out there. Which as we all know, just because its registered, doesn't make it "on the road"

IMO i would say less than 300 are probably on the road, but thats just a guess.

We got 3 in the driveway...

I'm sure it's 1000+

You just won't see them

How many total were produced? I would think the number to be closer to 1000 ish. 300 means only 6 running pigs per state. I know of several runners in my community alone. Although on the east coast I can imagine not many survive the rust belt and they already had rust problems to begin with. Soooo, maybe it is a lower number assuming more runners per non-rust belt state and less in the rust belt states. Dunno, would be interesting to find out.

my guess would be closer to 1000, with another 1000 unoperable, sitting and waiting to be saved by true diehard FJ55 fans. It's amazing how often you come across one in dire need.

I would like to think there are more 1000, but when I look up the production numbers there is no distinction from a 40 or 55. I see 40s all day but never 55s. I live in san Diego and I know for a fact there are a few here but in 6 years the only one I've seen is the one in my driveway. I think piggies are like cockroaches. When you turn the light on you only see the last few scurry off, but there are a lot more hiding.

I live on the east coast I can tell you I have seen 3 in the past ten years. Both were at cruiser events (GSMTR & CMCC)... I think they are few and far between on the east coast. Too much humidity and salt.

I would think most would reside in Cali, Oregon and Washington.

I'll have to add that to my standard refrain that when the world ends the last things standing will be coyotes and cockroaches (and now Pigs)...

Here Goes (from above table)

1967: 39
1968: 1824
1969: 3564
1970: 3990
1971: 5763
1972: 5999
1973: 7409
1974: 8152
1975: 10156
1976: 11572
1977: 13679
1978: 16945
1979: 15508

Total Pig Production: 104,600

That assumes no gaps in frame numbers...

This was the total number produced (world-wide) we came up with back in '07 from the frame numbers, so saying 1,000 are still on the road would be ~10%. I'd bet fewer than that are still on the road :frown:

Thanks Tucker, I was starting to think to myself, "Where did I post those numbers?"

It is funny that we know of so many '74 Pigs, but yet they almost 4000 more in '77. How come we see so few '77 Pigs around here?

later steel was thinner and poorer quality. like the 40 series, they rotted away

It's funny how I mention I never have seen 55 in san Diego and this morning I saw a green and white bobbed convertible headed north on 67. I got excited and my wife laughed at me.

At least seven here in Grand Junction, including two at my house. I've had five since 2008...one parted out and scrapped and two sent to CA.

I have 2 in my yard.

Several years ago during the East Coast Pig run, we had 14, yes 14 55's

Here's 10 in 2006:

A couple years ago when the Pig was the feature vehicle at Surf and Turf - Pismo ----- still less than 15 showed. I've got two, both drive well - one that's a daily driver 5 times a week the 2nd is going up for sale (retirement - can't take all my toys). But rarely see anyone on the road in one here in SoCal once every couple years or so.
