Anyone do some reflection over the holidays?

Had epiphany New Year’s Day. Currently acting medical director for urgent care system owned by large convenience store company. Great company to work for and I was offered incredible opportunity to do this over a year ago.

Well year later and I’m working my butt off. Honestly overwhelmed with duties that keep being added not typical of my position. 50+ hours a week and i take calls every day of the week helping staff at our 10 clinics. I made decision not to work from home a few months ago which only increased my burden during the week. Hard to take vacation since work load is even worse when I come back and you’re never really able to get away.

Prior to my starting this I was offered opportunity to fly right seat in some jets which I turned down. I reached out to Guy and he still has that opportunity. So I’m meeting next week to revisit flying. Strongly considering pursuing second career in flying.

Checking on training programs to knock out my multiengine commercial rating and get current again over the next 3-6 months. Anticipate flying right seat until I get hours to move to the left seat.

Flying some jets sounds like a fun gig!!

I’m not getting younger at 55. Parents in 80’s and I’m excited to spend more time with them on farm and see kids more often. Focusing on finishing some projects while earning nice income.

I preach work life balance to my staff, time to live what I preach.

@greenbeast It is important to do something you like/love especially at 55+ where working years in front of us are on the downside. Best of luck on the right seat flying gig!

I agree with David. When you first started talking about your love of flying, I looked for a family photo. I found it, it's a picture of my Grandfather leaning on his plane, he designed and built for the pilot, Hillary Beachy. Hillary was the brother to Lincoln Beachy a famous stunt pilot. Somewhere I have a photo of the two men on the fifty year anniversary. I say go for it, you've done the doctor thing, now have some fun.

Why not leverage all your credentials and work for and/or start your own Air Ambulance service? I know a guy in the middle east that makes really good money in that space. Good luck either way Jon. Sounds like at the very minimum you need to have a talk with your boss(es).

Been there done that at least in my early days. Reimbursement with healthcare is very fickle and poses significant risks.

This won’t happen overnight and there will be discussions while I continue to help develop things. I wouldn’t leave until new budget is developed in the next three months and new fiscal year starts in May.

I’ll keep my foot in door and do some chart review and would like to teach some. Our providers are most nurse practitioners and they need some training. Problem with u Trent role is there is no time to do it.

I work for good organization who likely recognizes what I’ve done to contribute to the needed changes over the last year. I have no reason to believe that we won’t find some middle ground with this change.

Well day went to hell. Thankfully all is good now. Daughter has mild form of Epilpesy for last couple years. While running on a trail earlier today she had a seizure and was found seizing by another runner. He stayed with her (thank god) until she stopped and called the ambulance.

Kim and I were at Alma maters basketball game she called me confused trying to tell me what was going on.

We left immediately and Kim was able to get flight to Denver and should be there shortly. I fly out tomorrow after son comes to house to take care of animals.

Thankfully she was cleared at ER and is back at her apartment.

Of course big storm gonna slow our return bringing her home but as long as she is safe who cares.

I was trying to fix the heater in the old shop (and then trying to keep the sprinklers from freezing) on NYE. Only have a 10’ ladder, which wasn’t tall enough. I got the cover off, but wasn't tall enough when standing on the second rung to see inside. Wife was unhappy about me being on top of a ladder “at your age” <grumble>.

So I called around and borrowed a little (85K BTU) propane burning construction heater to try to get the temp up to 70F and then see if it would make it until morning.

Didn’t want to sit in a closed shop burning that much propane for 3-4 hours, so I sat in the truck outside, going back in every 20 min to check on things. Didn’t want to accumulate too much of the CO I knew had to be there.

I got the little shop to 68F around 1am, s*** off the heater and went home.

Was down to 15F outside about 7:00am/sunrise, and the shop was down to 50F at 7:15am when I arrived.

Got a taller ladder, and found a plugged drain. Looked like it was full of PVC cuttings (maybe from the original install.) So much for my theory that it was a flame detector carboned over.

Came home. Watched UT beat ASU.

HNY to the sty!

That would be frustrating.
Stuff happens, but darn.
You really wish the guy that did the install would have de-burred all of his cuts...

Buttoning up everything around farm with extreme cold coming. Have to make sure well houses are all addressed. Everything I. Shop that needs to be.

Catch flight at 5 to Denver.

Not before I stop at my office and grab things and do payroll for some employees which is due tomorrow before 10.

Ya know what they say, no rest for the weary!

That was pretty darn fun!

Literally the first time I have ever welded. MIG

No idea how a re-blooded, American male Land Cruiser enthusiast of my vintage went this long w/o welding, but there you have it!
You even have a key to the shop, so you have all the opportunity you need, and Mike is an accomplished welder who can teach you.

(You know all this, but maybe most of the sty doesn’t..)
