I went to SLC to see Mom for her birthday.
She is in the hospital, again, but she seemed better than a few times when I have seen her in the past.
She seemed relatively happy, which was great for me to witness.
My sister and I baked her a cake. Mom loves carrot cake, and spice cake, so we did a mash up and made her a spicy carrot cake. It turned out pretty darn tasty, in my humble opinion!

Mom enjoyed it.

So a good weekend here. No one told me how their great, great grandfather was a roadie for Led Zeppelin and made me feel old!

Well pray she feels better and is home soon!

Kelsey driving home from Kansas on her way home from first semester at CSU. Your mom’s old car safely bringing her home!

She will love that update!

We are going to bring her another piece of cake this morning before I head home.

It’s snowing and blowing pretty good here, I might see about an earlier flight. I’ ready to get home to my peeps and pups.

Hope everyone has a group of friends they still can enjoy life with. There are 4 of us who grew up on weekends, all have gone separate ways in life but over last couple years have made it a point to do things as a group.

Duck hunting, pheasant hunting to going to beach to stay at condo one owns. After Christmas it’s duck hunting and hog hunting.

Last night one sent pic he found of us on lake in our high school days.

I love it!

High school pictures…

I’m going to message some HS friends and then I think I better see about firing up the snow blower…

@PabloCruise hope mom is home soon. Been thru the similar events…

On a brighter note….Led Zeppelin … I remember this as if it was yesterday
It is August 15, 1969
I am 16 years old and as a guitarist, was in a 5 piece rock band with a few guys a little older than I. We played all of the same typical rock music of the era and Zeppelin included. Woodstock was happening this same Friday, Saturday and Sunday…. 3 days of peace, love & music as it was billed. My friends and I had bought tickets to see Led Zeppelin this night at Asbury Park Convention Hall. My friend Billy had driven his 1949 Cadillac, frankly just another 20 year old car at the time, to Asbury Park with all of us. That back seat was huge

As we’re waiting on the boardwalk for a few hours the news of the Woodstock party is spreading quickly. Traffic is a nightmare, the concert is now free, hundreds of thousands attend hippie fest, it was going to become THE place to be.

My friends are saying we should go to NY to attend the Woodstock show. I was the voice of reason and said to them, “ the New York State Thruway is closed…who is going to drive almost 3 hours and get nowhere…BESIDES, WE PAID $.4.50 for the seats?” I don’t really want to just give them away. That $4.50 was a good part of my high school era paycheck.

Crazy but is is still only 4:30pm and they are itching to go… my mother would have screamed at me for days if I had gone to Woodstock and then never been able to let her know I was there for days. Remember the huge crowds and jammed up services

My suggestion eventually won out. We went into this small theater and saw Led Zeppelin perform the entire 1st album and then some. Jimmy page played his guitar bent over from the waste about 50 degrees all night long. Every song was remarkable. The violin bow across the strings in Dazed and Confused…the echo-rec sound delays, original tape style delay. Robert Plants amazing range… Bonham drum solos were next level and John Paul Jones litterally climbing on top of one of the Marshall amp stacks playing from the top. Freakin’ awesome

I remember 1 odd thing about this ….the announcer comes and and says”. Ladies and gentlemen… LED ZEPPELIN…LED ZEPPELIN “. Crowd is wild and the girl 2 rows behind us vomits loudly and youcan hear the effluent running down the aisle

GREAT SHOW!!!

55 YEARS later… I feel like this just happened

You got to see Zeppelin in August of 1969?!?

And your ride to the show was a’49 Caddy?!?

You sir are living your best life.

Plus, bonus points for use of the word “effluent” to describe a vomit story! I wonder if the lady in question rallied after the vomit episode? I hope so.

I’m sincerely jelly that you got to hear Communication Breakdown and Good Times, Bad Times in all of the original fury!

Wow…

So it has been a few days and I was procrastinating on filling the new heat zone with water and purging the air. For fear of a leak and need to re-do any leaking sweated joints. About 20 solder joints so , knowing very little beyond what i could read and remember, I filled the loops from the boiler and waited for the gush of air at the purge valve. It took about 4 minutes but then…whoosh it started. Filled another 3-4 gallons of water into that bucket and my wife told me she could follow the sound of the water moving through the 125’ loop upstairs. Here’s the best part, no leaks. I went down into the hatch crawl space and crawled to the hidden fittings…no leaks.

Wired the system up to the Taco zone controller but there is no 24v power to supply the thermostat the energy it needs to light, turn on and commence to wi-fi,ing. This is a simple red/white wire thing and I have 5 wires in the cable so bought a $20 transformer to add in….its 6am now…time to get back to work. Laminate flooring is on the agenda today

At the beach in Kauai today with my wife of 36 years. Put down my book and started checking out Land Cruiser stuff on MUD and IG and FB and BAT. After a while she asks what are you looking at? I replied Land Cruiser stuff. She then said can’t you stop thinking about Land Cruisers while we are on vacation? I thought about it for a second and said I don’t think I can. LOL

I can throw no stones!! Guilty as charged
Looks relaxing. Small part of me wishes the daughter was still attending UH in Manoa where she was this time last year, but i wouldn't see her as much as I do now. Glad she switched!

I only know three things about Hawaii… my friends sister and her new husband were married in 1976, both accountants and moved to Hawaii. They had good jobs at a big seafood company. 1 year later they were back in the mainland stating…”we could not afford to live there even with our decent salaries”

The second thing was a good friend stationed at McGuire Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic who was Hawaiian and this cool looking rainbow license plates

Third and last… @Aloha Jen lives there and has given me some great accessory tips 👍

While waiting on some small parts for Bonnie so I can get her back on road I took my beloved 79 F150 to friends shop to have its tranny, rear main seal, rear differential leaks all fixed. Of course it opened Pandora’s box. This from my buddy.

HAPPPY WEDNESDAY!

Lots of progress on your truck this week.

Rear-
all bearings and seals
Posi unit
Yoke
Brake wheel cylinders and hardware
Front-
Axle seals
Axle u-joints
Wheel bearings
Ball joints
Transmission-
Serviced with new fluid and filter
(Leaking around pan)
Engine torn down to do oil pan and noticed a very worn timing chain.

Dallas (great guy who helped Delancy immensely) just called. Lots of wear on Cam, didn’t think rear main seal would work. Possibly explains the slop in timing chain.

So it looks like Orange Ford out of commission for awhile. Dallas doesn’t trust any local engine builders so gonna send it off to Jasper and have them rebuild the 351 modified inside it.

RIP temporarily…

Best way to deliver even worse news!

HAPPY THURSDAY!

I just got off the phone with Jasper Engines. Both of your heads were cracked and will need replaced. This will increase the cost by $500.

Reminds me of my accountant, super sweet, very religious always having incredibly great day and doesn’t seem affected by telling me my quarterly tax amounts, probably with a freaking smile!!

I've only been to Barrett Jackson once to watch someone else buy cars (father in law). My experience has been most that he has purchased have had multiple issues, many weren't small either. Lots of lipstick on a pig vehicles, I really have no desire to go back.

Since I ran across my Ford there by accident, I did enjoy it for awhile but I guess I couldn't outrun the BJ curse.

It's all good, gonna be some fun times driving it when it's finished.

You can actually own LandCruisers in Hawaii, ya know…

I still have both of these.

But it’s true that it’s expensive, especially if you try to duplicate your life on da mainland.

Yes, you can definitely own and enjoy Land Cruisers here in Hawaii…even rust free LCs, as 3 of my 5 are testament of.

And as far as it being expensive, I lived in the Bay Area of CA for a while and have some family that I visit there. It seems just as expensive there, and even more expensive if you’re talking about gas or real estate by the ocean (yes, gas is cheaper on an island in the middle of the ocean than in CA). I suppose “expensive” and/or cost of living is relative to where you are coming from. Anyways, here’s a few examples of why Hawaii cost of living taxes could be considered higher than other places.

@Aloha Jen makes some pretty good points! LV has some high gas prices but when I cross to CA it is much higher. Also Maui Jim sunglasses and the best poke on the planet! My wife plans 3+ trips for us to Hawaii from Las Vegas every year. We both love it! Maybe the next trip should be Oahu so I can see her LC collection?
