Got the rear carpet done....that's very straight forward...but man, the 40oz marine grade is a huge step up from the 27yr old stock carpet. have to get the front (probably very tough) and rear (not too bad) passenger section done by the end of the week.

chrome blackout done....LOVE IT. The SEM trim paint is amazing, only thing I'd recommend for doing the paint. Laid down so nice, totally amazed with the finish. Dries so fast too. I'll have to get some better pictures in the daylight during the weekend.

also got the new rear hatch stays put in...so nice not having to use my head to hold it open.

All in all good weekend for checking a bunch of items off of the list and making good progress.

Well, haven't posted anything new in a while...had been waiting to be "finished" but life keeps getting in the way. At this point all I have left to do is install the panels, but the back seat in (after I use some SEM color coat to make them black), and have the stereo installed.

I'm amazed at the difference the sound deadening made. The MLV is really what made the difference in quieting the rig down....drove about 80 mi today and couldn't believe it..and that's with the door panels still not installed. Well here are some pix where the Walrus stands as of now...at least the exterior is complete...the F5 rims are sick and really happy with the blackout of all the chrome.

Rest of the carpet installed

MLV on the wheel wells....pita as MLV will not do compound bends...came out great and makes an unbelievable difference in noise reduction

and of course...if you're doing a Vortec swap (or anything major that's out of your pay grade)...this is the sign you want to search for.

super quiet...was surprised at how good they are. You'll love them.

This is how 4 body plugs ended up costing me almost another $700.

Ok. So I deleted the rear heater when I had Tor do the vortec swap and when I installed the BMW seat brackets he has. I needed to plug up the holes from the heater tubes. Lucky for me @beno has his fantastic "what's a parts guy to do thread", because what does he post? The body plugs that I need to pop in. So I call the ever trusty @cruiserdan to make yet another parts order (sad thing is when I placed my first order for parts with him over a year ago I seriously thought I had purchased everything that was "needed" for my resto.

Call#1. Get the body plugs ordered. CDan rightly points out that the shipping will cost more than the plugs. I decided to add to the order since it wouldn't make sense to just get these plugs..I"m sure there are a few other things that I "need" for my rig. Insert music as this is when I started down the rabbit hole.

#1. Also need to get a new bracket/spacer for my ac line...really a need.
#2. "Well, my original door handles, the gaskets are pretty beat up...and they're missing the two small grommets that reside behind the door handle. So sure, it totally makes sense to buy four new ones...even though I'll need to powder coat them to match my rig.
#3. My wiper arms are also beat up...might as well get some new fronts and a rear.

Ok, not too bad. Just a few things...let me go look at Onur's thread again...and Joe_E's awesome resto. What a sweet ride. What else is Onur up to. Hey look @sschruff posted something.....oh, crap what's he getting....shakes start.

Not much is clear over the next few days...but it does entail about another 4 calls to CDan adding to my order...each time I can imagine him just saying to himself...yep another ones gone over the edge.

new headlight rings, screws, rear lenses (would have bought new front and rear signals if they were still available. Oh, get some new screws and retainer clips

"Maybe i should get a backup windshield gasket...just in case the new one I put in gets damaged some day". CDan, well I guess by logic it is the one most likely to go if you ever break your windshield...yep this ones gone...nuttier than all hell

Me "Dan should I get some new headlight housings while I"m at it" CDan "I've only seen those replaced when one was in an accident, and those aren't cheap at all...Point to Dan, he actually talked me off the ledge. Has to be like trying to pry a crack pipe from a junkie

So the long and short of it...I called for this

and ended up with this

Shane, you're officially on my hit list. :flipoff2:

Just tack that onto the other $3K in NOS parts I'd already bought....but in the end...its all worth it.

Hey, how did I get dragged into this? You called CDan, not me!!

I would've told you to stop at the 4 plugs.

Beautiful rig by the way. Very tasteful.

Thanks Onur. CDan would probably say I should get rid of it and get a nice 70! And I doubt you'd dissuade me...or encourage. At least Shane and I would have a good judge for who has the OCD worse...my $ is still on Shane though.

That's funny cuz I'm in the same boat. Called Onur today to add to my order twice. Somehow I got the same bug. If you can get it new now, or get used later is the way I see it. Keep up the good spending...hahaha:D

I love the smell of new parts in the morning.....

Your carpet looks fantastic! I am also in Seattle and replacing the carpet is the major project on my list. Did you have it done locally or did you do it yourself? If so, did you get the supplies locally? Thanks for any help!

Did it myself. Bought the carpet online. Not particularly difficult...just very time consuming...as well as being very careful with the measurements.

Got the carpet here. Due to the size I had to have it delivered to a commercial address.

Having the same issues here. I just wanted to change fan belts then I a saw all the hoses needs replaced ordered them. Then it was the original clamps and now the top oil cooler tube and the lower radiator tube. From there I bought the oil sensor and thermo sensor off the housing!
$$. Luckily the parts guy I deal with knows me and gives me my discount thank god for that.
Your rig looks great Major!!
