Wonderful choice of mods, although you should be aware that the new OME springs are not australian made.

Good luck and keep up the pictures, pretty please!!

ok, progress continues. The body has really turned out to be as clean as I hoped. There was a small spot of rust under the a-pillar on the drivers side (upper corner)....body guy did a great job cleaning it up and some POR-15 in there should take care of it.

Should be going to paint next week...here are some pix for the update.

Now I'm onto the pressing decision to be made....finally deciding on the color...having 2nd thoughts on the color.

Here are my top choices right now
1. Still the Nara bronze. Fear here is that it might look too brown

2. Pewter

3. Grigio Antares - saw this in Batman rises the other day....love the color...trying to decide how it'll look on the walrus though...slight difference between a FJ60 and a lambo...those Italians do know color/style though

4. Thunder Cloud (from a 02 4Runner)

Also, got the all the door handles off to the powder coater yesterday as well. Soon as I get it back its on to re-doing the interior and up to Torfab to let him work his magic on this thing.

and no one mind that sucking sound...just the wallet emptying out. All these bits add up quickly....it'll be more than worth it in the end.

Color color

those are all really cool colors.. i personaly would go with one of the silvers..(darker 4 runner silver, almost charcoal color) i had a charcoal f250 7.3L (that was stolen and started my addiction to 60s with the cash i got from the insurance) and it always looked clean! it was an awesome color to maintain. i love the combination of charcoal/silver and black.

IMO, the 60 and 80 series are two of the best vehicles I've seen for looking well in just about any color. I don't think you're going to go wrong, no matter what paint you decide on.

I agree that these trucks look good in almost any colour. Just make sure you are happy with it.
I also plan on putting some BMW seats into my 60, please share how you manage to do it and which seats you decide to use.

subscribed. I have no input on color, unless you want to go crazy :o

Torfab has made brackets for BMW 3 series seats (4 door are the best to get). The model year range was 00-06 I believe. I got some manual fake leather ones. Getting the brackets powder coated as we speak....these things are STOUT. Can't wait to get them in.

Tor has a thread out there on these as well

This is going to be a good build! I agree I would not molest the 40. I have wanted a 40 for a while but just found out kid #3 is on the way. I might try to get back into a 60 which would fit the bill a little better for the near future.

What tranny are you going to use?

Going with a L460E (at least that's the plan).

Ok, two questions on some minor issues

1. For the door handles I've gotten them powder coated (pick them up tomorrow). But realized some of the plastic backing pieces aren't in great shape.

can't buy these separate (same for those small rubber stoppers that go int the handles). What do others do in this situation...what's a good alternative.

2. Has anyone ever used easy off to take the chrome off of the grill and surrounds. I've called around looking for a place that can strip the chrome off of the ABS, but no such luck. Want to take it to the raw plastic before hitting with krylon fusion.

Thanks.

When I did mine I just used a heavy grit sand paper (think I used 50 or 60 grit) and went to town. Instead of Krylon I used engine paint and it has stuck around just fine for almost a year now. Hear others really like the appliance paint with the same type of prep.

Another vote for thunder cloud....

As to the grille and headlight doors. on my 83 60 a few years back, I just sanded all of it and where it was peeling, I feathered down until my seam was all "still adhered" chrome, then primed the whole thing, then used ceramic engine paint (satin black and cast coat iron) to finish..pretty durable and easy to touch up.

I wonder if one could sand, then plasti-dip, then prime, then paint. Maybe the plasti-dip would seal any of the potential entry points for element (water, dirt, wind, ice) damage...It has to be a bear to try and get it all the way down to raw plastic with all those nooks and crannies.

What I'll say it's besides the point, since you have color choices already but I'd go with a solid non metallic color. They will always outlast any metallic color in terms of still looking good after a few good years. Solid colors are 1st in my book. My two cents.

Someone on the forum brought up the idea of using jeep colors recently. I know, I know, that is basically heresy for a lot of people on here, and this isn't even close to any of the colors you were suggesting, but I think that a 60 in this color would be absolutely sick! Its a jeep color designated as "anvil"

I had thought about that color earlier...just couldn't bring myself to putting a heep color on her. :| I'll be getting the rig back from the body shop sometime next week. can't wait to get her back.

totally agree....unfortunately I found a dark silver metallic that I fell for. it'll be covered in mud regardless so might be a moot point 50% of the time.
