Its pretty clean looking, sans the rust stains and tigerstripe primer coats that were across it. Im taking her to Uwharrie though next week..wont be clean for long!!

Looking good!

Thanks!! Have you thought about bringing the fam and the 40 to Uwharrie in a couple of weeks?

Probably not. I'm not a member of ONSC (I am a member of the NCFJ club). I will have a 10 week old at that point and probably wouldn't have a lot of fun taking her along! That is one reason I have not joined the club yet... knowing that for some time, I won't be able to make events. Maybe once she is old enough, I can join and start making some events. I know you guys will have a great time though!

Is that Almond by Rustoleum? Curious because I'm considering this myself.

Yes that is it! Good call! the gloss version if far too bright and shiny for me - I want to see pics!!

Thanks! This is the most sweat equity Ive ever put into something I WANTED to do..its kind of medicinal, therapeutic and a great way to 'deserve' a beer at the end of working!!:D

Ten weeks old is the PERFECT age to start 'breaking them in' to camping! JK - I totally understand! I have a daughter as well..nothing thrills (and scares the crap outta me) more than to imagine she'll continue my 40 obsession...:)

I exchanged the too short shocks over the phone, my new ones were to be sent to me..Im a patient girl..I waited. I finally called shockwarehouse.com to find out what the delay was - turns out the shocks are on backorder and they didnt bother to notify me.:bounce2:

Im going to have to put these rough country shocks on the front until we get back from Uwharrie..Bilstein on the rear, rough country on the front. God I hope theyll fit. Meanwhile - thank you shockwarehouse, ...Ill not shop with them anytime soon..No apologies, no resolution offered - just "oops". I can take mistakes - I absolutely hate lousy customer service..(dont we all?)

Our twins were about that age at their first camping trip. Is it a bit more work? YES!!! But in the long run it is worth it. They are 25 now and both avid campers.

Have a great time in the woods this weekend! The 40 looks great. It is amazing how the little work on the front end makes it look so much cleaner. Defnitely pics from the trip. Hopefully I will find my 40 soon and begin joining you guys and gals on the trail.

Will do! Its a busy time, getting ready to take her out for 'real' roadtrip..I have sanded, prematex'd and rattlecanned my rear tub. I permanently removed the passenger side jumpseat..after this trip Ill remove the other jumpseat. Ill be searching the junkyards for a benchseat replacement. Id like to have it facing backwards.

Bought some of those gray foam pads for a temporary bed liner and cut it to fit the tub. Also used the foam to go under the sound cube to provide a bit of a softer ride. The junction box that I bought will be mounted over the foam.

Got my power inverter just today. Planning on mounting it on the hump between the front seats. The wires from the battery will run under the molded original floor mats.

Went through our extensive first aid kit for the trip (the huz is a retired corpsman - we could almost do field surgery with the stuff we have!)

I feel like posting all this is almost like Im running through a mental to - do list. 5 days to go, 40 hours to the real job AND the shocks have been held up and arent getting here till Tuesday (we leave early Friday!!) Talk about last minute!

Since the shocks havent arrived the huz took my broken back hatch off (the handle broke, pretty common) and since the door suffered from the typical rust issues he fiberglassed the bottom of the door inside and out and replaced the rotted weatherstrip..I had a horrible leak..this will fix it for the trip.

The plan now is during the winter we're going to store the 40, keeping the hardtop and correctly repairing it.

Ill have pics, but I figured Id bring everyone up to speed.SO MUCH TO DO!!

why can't you drive the 40 in the winter ?

even if you only have a front heater, it puts out a LOT of heat - I drove it through a blizzard, and while I couldn't see well (because the wipers couldn't push that much snow), I never ever got cold or was worried about getting cold - and that was with a more than leaky softtop :meh:

I can drive it perfectly fine in the winter - Im merely choosing winter to repair the hardtop.I want to be completely ready for spring..Winter time here is quite rainy and damp. Disassembling the hardtop in my driveway would most likely be a bad idea..I want to take my time, probably going to add a family rollcage while the top is off - seats and belts all replaced etc.
