How common are semi floating rear axles here in the states, I just picked up an fj60 with a semi floating rear axle but I see so many of them with full floaters. Basically my concern is if its the original axle or the previous owner took the full floater from my 60 and slapped on a semi. I will post pics tomorrow when I see the truck.

feel free to post pictures of your factory semi floaters if they exist, id like to compare yours to mine to ensure it is factory.

only the coolest cruisers have Full Floaters in the US, when it comes to anything older than 94...so, sorry, but your cruiser isn't as cool with its semi...sounds like you found your next project tho. find Georg;)

X2, all US spec were SF up until 94

93 is the year yins was thinking of.

does anyone know if the images show recognizable features of the correct axle from a fj60

yeap everything is normal there.

you would have some of this action if it was a full floater.

Looks normal, but is missing ebrake cable, and seems to have sway bar brackets but no bar.

First of all, every USA FJ60/62 came with a semi-float axle. They are just fine. In fact for most owners, they are preferable to the full floater which requires much more maintenance.

The semi-float axle is not weaker than the full float axle. It may have a higher load carrying capacity, but it is not weaker. Both FF and SF have the same sized splines at the differential and that's the weak spot.

The principal advantage of a full float axle is that in the event of axle breakage (a very rare event) the truck can still roll on it's wheels. So take what you have, I'm sure it's factory, and drive on.
