Has anyone tried this stuff? It mostly keeps the factory look but offers same protection from sun and heat as dark tint. Any feedback on if you like it?

Crystalline is really nice actually but it doesn't necessarily block as much UV or heat as most high quality darker tints . There are a few kinds (something like 50, 70, 90) of crystalline and each one has different protection levels. It does however block a ton of heat and UV considering its transparency. It's very high quality stuff that's good at blocking UV and heat for people who don't want dark film.

Maybe check out the 3M spec sheets online of the different Crystallines then compare to darker film before deciding.

I actually pulled the trigger on this. I am getting the entire truck lined in 70 and 90 on the windshield. I don't recall exactly but UV, IR, glare, and heat reduction was equal or better than 35% dark tint.

I had this done over the weekend. I highly recommend for anyone who wants tint and doesn't like the factory brown tone. The crystalline has the visual effect of almost eliminating brown tone, leaving the tint just dark and clean looking. The front windows are just slightly darker than factory, giving a uniform looking high-end tint.

Interested. Any pics after install?

Thanks

It's a bad time of day to take a pic here but this may give idea of the tone. A lot of the brown is gone and front just looks slightly darker. I used CR70, but they sell two shades darker and one lighter.

I did the windshield in CR90, almost totally clear but with heat and light rejection qualities.

We do almost all of our customer cars with the 90 on the windshield and depending on the car 90 on the sides...sometimes 70 on the sides(some sport utilities are better matched with 3M CS(carbon based tint) on the sides...for the look). The Crystalline 90 has a very very slight blue tint to it....the 70 has a bit more blue to it(some Mercedes cars have the blue tint as factory...the 70 looks like this). The 50 is a little more traditional but kind of light. I have my 80's windshield done and the front doors in 90(clear). My 79 pickup is done in the 90 all the way around. On the white truck you can slightly see the blue tint...but it looks kind of OEM. It's almost hard to believe how much cooler the interior stays. Within 30 seconds of starting the car, the AC has already cooled things down. Cars can get so hot down here in FL during the summer that they will take your breath away when you open the door.

I did a Ferrari for a client last week and he is shipping all of his cars over to have them done after getting that one back. He was shocked by how good it is. I totally agree with him and as the anti-tint guy I am(seems to date cars in my opinion), being able to get the UV and heat reduction AND keep the car's windows clear is almost too good to be true.

Shop around though...I know for our area, retail pricing can be all over the place and some of it is very high.

Yeah the price wasn't ideal but it's worth it to me. I am very pleased with it.

It's well worth the money. Where did you have the Crystalline installed?

I've wondered how difficult it is to DIY this tint. Has anyone done a DIY job with this 3M tint? I know you can get in on eBay, but I don't know what the install process entails. Since most of the windows on the 80 are flat(ish) it seems like it should be simple, especially if you removed the window.

From what the installer told me the hardest windows are the far rear and windshield. For the rear you have to take the latches off the window to do it right and for the windshield, there is heating and shrinking involved. It took the shop a full 8 hours to get it done.

The windshield would be really tough for a DIYer. The rubber seal on our style windshield poses an issue for some installers and the 3M material is very very thick...not easy to work with.

Looks good. Glad you're happy with it. Crystalline is definitely high quality film and it gives your truck a nice (and different) clean look. Enjoy!
