Does anyone happen to know the length of the DC driveshaft for the early 60-series? Maybe a possible alternative route to a 5-speed conversion for a 40-series. Modify it for a rear drive shaft. I'm wondering if that's what someone did for my BJ42 w/H55F.
Five speed or four speed? What year? Best pictures I have of a 84 H41 from a HJ47. The front driveline has a Double Cardan which is next to the transmission. It also has a protective cage part of which is in the picture. Need to double check the crossmember but don't remember any marks. Now if I ever do go to a five speed it should make it interesting to lengthen the front driveline to keep the double Cardan and cage
Have drivelines from 82 FJ40 US market and 83 BJ42 Australian market. Neither have the double Cardan. The double Cardan was not used on all HJ47s. The one I have came off a 84 Australian market troopy.
Not that this is about the double Cardan driveline but year, model, market it's from and was this a factory setup?
The point I was making is the double Cardan with the cage must have cleared the crossmember in the four speed but was it used on a five speed? Got my setup in pieces so not sure if the bottom loop of the cage was above the crossmember or in front of it? @3_puppies do you know? A member was kind enough to send me the missing pieces for the cage but never installed them on the T/T which is sitting on a pallet in another location then the crossmember.
The H55F has the transfer case lever pivot mounted a few inches towards the rear on the newly available versions. From looking at the transmission covers, it looks like the early versions of the H55F had the lever mounted in the same place since the covers have the shifter openings off-set.
Does moving the transfer case shifter mount negate the need for the cage with the H55F?

I hadn't thought about the relocated boss for the shifter. Adjusting the mounting point for the cage wouldn't be as big a deal as dealing with housing for the reverse gear being in the way. But not sure it would be needed since the crossmember would most likely be under it.
My five speed is going in my 79 FJ40. The axles, transmission, transfer case and drivelines from the HJ47 are going in my 65 FJ45 which should be the same wheel base. Thought I would use the R-H740 and L-H750 L brackets. But now that I know the R-FB530 and L-FB540 are for the 8/80+ FJ45s those might be a better fit.

I just pulled a 84 60 home, I'll look tomorrow about the cage. My 40 trans is buried in the shop, I don't recall it having a cage. only cages I've seen are on the double cardon shaft.

I agree the cage was to protect the double Cardan. I don't think any of the mid or short wheel base got the double Cardan. Would have to do some research to see if any of the FJ45s got them. Doesn't look like all HJ47s got them. Mine came off a troopy.
If you get a chance snap a picture of the cage to show where it's is in comparison to the crossmember. Wondering if with a five speed if the crossmember would serve the same purpose.
Does this setup have the spacer between the trans & transfer? Interesting... it looks like the crossmember has a larger diameter curve just beneath the DC joint when compared to the 40-series crossmember. The pivot for the transfer lever is further forward than on the 5-speeds too.
Anyone ever seen a crossmember that looks like like one. Suppose to from a 40 series. Don't have the crossmember just the pictures. It's the rusty one.
What is the correct name / part number for the "cage". If putting a H55F in a 40 and installing a DC driveshaft would the cage be advisable? Or just overboard?
But it does have the dip for the front driveline with the round hole and slot in in the area. This one has large cutout in the cradle area of the transmission and no dip for the driveline. Not sure it's off a 60 series.
I've installed one in my chassis. Haven't dealt with the driveshafts yet, but I'm hoping that since it's staying at stock spring height I can just modify the stock non-dc one for the rear
I have not installed my H55F yet. I am just trying to plan everthing out and make sure I haven't overlooked something or considered all options. Once I start I don't want to say "Oh poo" I need "X" and it is NLA
