David1947 I was looking for shots from your install??

I have not installed my H55F yet. I am just trying to plan everthing out and make sure I haven't overlooked something or considered all options. Once I start I don't want to say "Oh poo" I need "X" and it is NLA

What will you be using for a cross-member?

Here are the Tom Woods drive shafts I bought. The rear was short enough they advised a double cardan. So far they have been perfect.

Sorry. The install was during a HAMOM and there was so much going on under the 40 I wasn't able to get any photos. All I managed was a before and after of the tranny from the inside of the tub.

The H55 and split case TC took up a lot more room.

What is the correct name / part number for the "cage". If putting a H55F in a 40 and installing a DC driveshaft would the cage be advisable? Or just overboard?
It's called the propeller shaft dust cover, and consists of multiple parts:

Note the differences between the 4-speed and 5-speed applications.

what was odd is, the 40 series with 4 speed did not come with the double cardon front shaft
60 series up to the switch to the long trans did come with a double cardon front shaft.

no idea why, the distance seems to be fairly close between the transfer and front diff.

I wonder why the difference? Mounting location on the transmission?

The difference is the front drive flange on the transfer case moved further back with the five speed. These parts bolted to the transmission in icluding the boss for the transfer case shifter which moved back on the five speed. Here are a couple of pictures of part of one from a four speed.

Sure they did on the some late model long wheel base 40 series. Those picture ares from a transmission/transfer case from a 84 HJ47RV from Australia. I looked it up and both double Cardan and no double Cardan were used.

I was able to source a complete support assembly for a 40 series from Germany

How did you ship it from Europe? Was it expensive? For Australia think this is at the border of being able to mail or find a container. Container is cheaper, it's the time frame of getting it that's the killer.

oops, I was thinking just US spec 40 and 60 series. I forget overseas markets got different configurations.

anyone have the actual toyota parts numbers

Are you running a double Cardan on the front driveshaft. Thought you were planning one for the rear because of a lift causing a steep angle. This dust cover is made to bolt transmission to cover the front driveshaft not the back driveshaft.

@FJ40Jim was kind even to give me the missing piece for my four speed dust cover. The few different pieces that are required to use on a five speed are NLA. Finding them used in the US will just able impossible. The HJ47 had them in Australia but the HJ47 did not have a five speed option. They did get five speeds in their 60 series but how many still have them install probably going to be hard parts to find.
