I just did 2" Dobinsons and was about $1,000. Ride is really nice. Not stiff like OME. Can save $140 if assemble your own coil over.

I thought I saw on a post that he ordered from Treaty Oak Suspension

It looks like Kyle sells two different Dobinson suspension kits. One is a standard kit (2" body shocks?) for $900 (plus the $140 front coilover mounting fee) and a premium kit with remote reservoir shocks (2.2" body?) for $1770. I think it uses the same springs on both kits, just the different shocks.

I'm still trying to sort out all the different terminology on suspensions like the shocks body diameter (60mm, 56mm, 2.5", 2.2", 2.36"), lift height 2", or 2.5", or 3", and long travel vs standard travel (open vs compressed).

I suppose that's why it's easier to buy a whole suspension kit from one of the vendors on-here as opposed to mixing and matching your own parts.

Correct. I ordered from Kyle at Treaty Oak Offroad. He has a lot of spring and shock combos not listed on the website. I contacted through the contact page on his website. Got back to me same day and very responsive to my questions.

@David Otero @Kyle Fogle. This is your chance to list Dobinsons applications for 120 series.
Maybe not in this specific tread. But surely I wanted to know more about your product

OME makes much better effort at marketing their products. There is very slim information about Dobinsons product. In Australia its more related to the installer recommendation. In US you need to market your products to DIY. You need to educate your customer by putting as much info online.

I am looking at some patrols using MMR and it looks like it work really well. No Prado video using this product that I could find on YouTube anyway.

What are main differences between
  1. MMR
  2. Monotube IFP
  3. Twin tube gas
What is the intended target customer for each type, performance difference, shock travel etc.

Hey Mate,

Thank you for the suggestions, and you're right we need to do better on our marketing end.

  1. MMR - Monotube Remote Resevoir model that features a 2.6" diameter on Cruisers and Patrols and 2.2" diameter on other vehicle that use Struts in the front. Price range from $300-375
  2. Monotube IFP - Monotube non resi model that also has the same diameters as the MRR but without the resi it has an internal floating piston. Price range from $200-275
  3. Twin tube - Twin tube design with heavy duty walls that is basically a traditional design that fits the budget and works well. Price range from $95-150

We get plenty of compliments of our 3 current shock options so i would say all are good options just depends on your budget and what you are doing with your vehicle.

Thank you very much for for the info @David Otero

What is the main difference between the MMR and Monotube IFP? Any shock travel differences?
I assume the remote reservoir are geared more for long corrugated trail expedition with heavily loaded vehicle. Any differences with IFP if used on short distance but heavy off road use?

Does the MMR & IFP come with different valving if paired with different springs?

Does the bracket for MMR reservoir fit KDSS equipped 120 series?

I will add you can get three different spring colors but you have to ask. Standard is the teal/blue. You can get red or black also. I have black.

Alright I'm in. OME lift, whatever the shortest springs they make in front with SPC arms, OME shocks. Nitto Ridge Grappler 255 80 r17 on stock rims, no spacers. I was able to get the spare to fit, barely, once I aired it down to about 16psi. It most definitely would not fit otherwise, unless I wanted to remove the receiver hitch, which isn't happening. it's still right up against the panhard rod, don't love it but will keep an eye on it to see how it goes.

The fronts rub in the back of the wells at full lock and compressed, I think I can heat up that plastic though and just mash it in a little. Backs don't rub at all, and I had it flexed out pretty good to test. I think I need it taller in front, even though I like the CV angle right now.

You were able to fit a 33.3” tire in the spare location at 16 psi? How is that possible? I thought 32.2” is the max diameter of the spare location.

Your front lift looks a little low with those tires. Can you share the OME part numbers you used for your shocks land springs?

Looks good! 884 springs up front? Did you happen to do a before and after measurement from hub to fender?

that is correct, it's up there. Will see if I can get a picture.

I did not, at the time it was the wife's ride and all I was after was replacing the failed airbags with whatever was low and readily available at my neighborhood Toyota 4WD specialist. I figured one day this truck would be mine, and I'd be dealing with the suspension again, and here we are.. :)

@nakman Not suspension related, but how do you like the Gamiviti rack? Is the wind noise very noticeable?

Good to know about the spare fitting. Looking at these tires as well.

I'd prob go a bit taller in the front. Do you happen to have any front and rear pics? Love that color btw.

Ok my front springs are labeled 883X. here's a picture... also a pic of the spare up against the panhard rod

Gamiviti rack? Yeah I like it a lot. yes there is wind noise, the fairing is essential on these, I am working on a new fairing that will go down 1" lower to close the gap a little more, I think that will help.

@addition33 some more pics of the truck front and back. Smaller BFG's though, so staying with tire content here those are 265 75 r17 BFG's, same suspension. :)

You were right...you went with the shortest OME front springs that are considered stock height

Front Coil, Wire Diameter, Free Length, Spring Rate (lbs/in)
OME 883 0.67 14.76 590
OME 884 0.67 15.16 590
OME 885 0.67 15.55 590
OME 886 0.71 15.83 660

And nice pictures of your GX470

Front = Toytec 2.5 w/ 5100 on bottom perch
Rear = Moog FJ w/ MT conversion (stock struts for now)

265/70/17 terra grappler on FN countersteer wheels

Torn on if I like the tire size or want to go bigger. Trying to stick to a "mild" setup as it spends 80% of its time in urban settings and my old lady drives it a ton.

The 265's look good with your wider wheels but of course bigger would look great as well. I basically have the same suspension setup and torn between 265 and 255/80. Trying to keep a mild setup as well...
