Gas Seeping (Spewing) Out From Fuel Filler Neck

This may or may not be your issue but I had from what I've been told was a common problem similar to yours. Fuel leaked when topped off and would dribble on the exterior quarter panel.

Turns out my fuel lid wasn't sitting correctly but that wasn't the problem...it was my filler neck. One of the tabs where the lid would catch was tired and worn. In some casses it can be bent back a bit but in mine it was just best to purchase another used one.

Check that your fuel lid closes correctly and doesn't make any sudden movements towards the end of the turn. Not sure if that makes sense but feel free to pm me as I have the old neck still and can take a short video if need be. Hope this helps someone.

I agree with you on the bad filler neck problem. I have experienced this problem first hand and not even a brand new stock
gas cap would fit because of one of the ends being bent down. Cruiser had a aftermarket gas cap on it that would move around
and keep turning. IT was the weirdest problem I ever saw with a 60.
Can also happen with a 62 as the filler necks are the same.

Had had this happen to me as well. Did a real nice number on my paint and mud flap. Blew air through all the fuel evap lines to the cc. Then checked cc per FSM and replaced gas cap. About a year without recurring.

yeah I think the problem is two fold, one is that things are not venting correctly but also the cap is not sealing due to the worn fill neck, I will be going through the whole system and refurbishing it. I am guessing the charcoal canister is probably not available any longer?

New CC confirmed NLA.
Good luck

There is a thread floating around in the 80 section of an Autozone CC that SHOULD work. Don't know if any of the guys on here have tried it or not.
EDIT: yup ACDelco 215-75 is what I have saved in my amazon lists that is supposed to be the one.

What about the charcoal canisters from the late 80s toyota trucks/4runners? Anyone tried one of those? They look very similar.
Part number of pic to reference? May depend on the year too.

I just noticed the similarity from google pictures. I don't know what part number it would be. It has two top ports and one bottom port like the FJ60/62 canisters. This is a picture from a 1988 4runner I believe:

They're all NLA too.

The CC is a piece of crapoy emissions equipment. Older cars didn't have them. The tank just vented to atmosphere.

Toyota knows the check valves in all their CCs malfunction after several years and screw-up the venting system...and they'll gladly sell you another CC for a few years after the last date of manufacture for an exorbitant ridiculous price.

After that short grace period, it goes NLA and you're left to figure it out.

Count yourself lucky that you have a 60. The new 200 series cruisers have a SENSOR connected to the CC. When the CC malfunctions, the sensor picks it up, the check engine light comes on, and the engine goes into limp mode. Transfer won't go into 4WD low.

The party for 200 guys won't be starting for a few years from now... But when the birthday cake hits the fan, there's gunna be icing flung everywhere. Problem is, it'll be brown and smell like fertilizer.

Oh bummer, well at least there is the autozone work around the 80's guys figured out if needed. Doesn't the CC decrease the smell of gas fumes?
That is crazy about the 200 series sensor! How annoying. Yeah, I like the general lack of electronic stuff on the old cruisers. :) Playing catch up with all the dwindling parts for the 60 series is hard enough, I cant imagine trying to do that with a newer cruiser.

there is a thread bouncing around that has a reference to an aftermarket CC, thats suppose to work and is an easy install.
