Hey Tucker,

Nice bumper, I made a couple of bumpers like that for my Son"s jeeps. I've been thinking about what to do for mine. It looks good on your wagon,:hhmm:.

I wanted to ask you about your long range tank. Are you useing a skid plate and how far does it hang below the frame, ruffly.

Thanks, Ron

Very nice looking tucker! The winch really pops too!

I've got the same 55gal tank I've seen others show, takes up the entire spare tire area and does hang below the frame. The design basically slopes up with the leaf springs and is level with the cross member at the rear, so it's fairly protected by the axle and the leaf springs on either side at the front where it's deepest. My truck also has a receiver cut into the center of the cross member, this extends down the slope of the tank and is triangulated to the frame in front of it (giving me a skid of sorts).

The Roundup Shuffle!

So after reluctantly considering taking my 80 to the LSLC Round up next week, I've decided to make one more push to get the Piggy ready for the event. I decided to post this up here to give myself some motivation from the fellow Knights!

Current punch list:

  • Brakes - Replaced the MC and the rear cylinders, still have a mushy pedal. Fairly certain the booster is working, will try gravity bleeding the rear circuit. Backup plan - FJ80 booster from Jason (CruiserYard).
  • Radiator - Unable to figure out how to have aluminum mounts fabbed to the $150 Summit option in time and chasing down the Plymouth Trailduster ghost yielded no results. Dropped off my existing radiator at local shop to have re-cored. (ETA: Wed 3/13)
  • 4WD -
    • The pig came sans front DS and missing the flange/deflector/washer/nut on the pinion :frown: Sourced a FJ60 front DS and ordered the other pieces from Kurt (ETA: Fri 3/8)
    • The opening for the 4WD lever needs to be modified and the H-N-L shifter arm is bent not allowing it to shift.
  • Seat belts - Pig has the stock front seat belts with buckets from a Chevy van, for some reason the autolock on the PS belt safety locks in the resting position leaving any occupants unable to buckle up. Ordered a set of front belts from Wesco Performance thanks to my fellow Knights :) (ETA: Mon 3/11)
  • Clutch cover - Piggy came sans clutch inspection cover, sourced a FJ60 cover from Jason (CruiserYard) and have it soaking in the parts washer.
  • Misc - Need to install new gaskets on my turbo inlet and vapor vent (diesel equiv to PCV).

To compound my problem I'm out of town until Wed 3/13, giving me exactly two days to complete this list for my departure at 0600 Fri 3/15 :crybaby: Wish me luck!

Tucker-
Good todo list.

A couple of things-
1- I dont have any 80 boosters left, I do have some 60s
2- I will know by Monday if I am taking the pig. The 60 is the backup and no work is needed on that. I should be free to help when you get back in town Wed if you want an extra set of hands, just let me know.

The 60/62 will also work, I'll just need the in-line check valve since they aren't internal like the FJ80 ;) I was planning on doing the gravity bleed on Wed and having you bring in a booster to work Thurs if that doesn't work. Hoping you get Elsie going so we can poke around in the Piggys out on the rocks ...

Cool, keep me posted. I was going to take it to get inspected today, but I went out there and it started and then I turned it off to swap out batteries since it was weak. It wont start now, it's getting fuel though. I need to check for spark tonight. So close to being street legal.....

Once I get the salpicon knocked out Thursday I should be able to assist. We can always fall back on the Black Mamba!

Tucker, if you can give me drawing and dimensions for radiator mounts. I can Fab for you.

Thanks Bob.

Radiator - check
4WD - check
Seat belts - check

Got the clutch cover cleaned up and painted, would have installed but I realized I'm going to need to trim it to fit with the diesel adapter. Just brakes and some misc stuff to go tomorrow -

Tucker, did you end up cutting the tranny tunnel for the TC shifter. If so how did it turn out? BTW I installed the speed bleeders on mine and i have a better pedal, should have ordered 4 for you.
