So sexy!
Its when that image that you have had in your head for sooooo long actually starts to become a reality. Wow! Its happening!
Yes, it IS happening! So hard to believe how far it’s come. Wish I had some better “before” pics, but was gonna throw up a couple of the underside for comparison. Huge difference.

All day at it!

The first order of duty was to get the internal cage straightened out. It warped after I was done welding which brought the lengthwise runners away from the roof, which was the opposite of what I wanted.
After a little research, I set the rack back in the upside-down tub, put some hydraulic pressure on it and applied some torch heat to several key areas. Worked like a charm and now the rack sits flush against the ceiling without any pressure.
After that, it was time to punch the holes through the roof for the upcoming roof-rack.
Then as afternoon rolled around it was time to turn attention gluing the upper cowl back on and getting past that phase.
Once I sweated myself through that process, I turned to spraying a coat of epoxy primer on the internal roof rack.

More stuff crossed off the list(s).

I got my first gallon last Friday. Can’t wait to get shooting!

Wow, I have been away too long! Can't wait to see more. Why was the metal in the cowl pitted? Did you have a bunch of leaves and debris build up in there?

Must have been at one point. I think not long after I discovered that the cowl grill portion was removable, I cleaned out a bunch of pine needles and leaves and dirt. But that was long ago. There wasn’t a bunch in there this last time, but it wasn’t spik-n’-span either.

So here’s something interesting -
Beneath the factory black paint on the dash, and the overspray on the inner firewall was both white and red🤔

A good portion of the black overspray could be easily removed by wiping with an acetone soaked rag.

Painted.
Sanded.
Sandblasted.
Cut.
Welded.
Grinded.
Sanded.
Cleaned.
Wiped.
Prepped.
Primered.
And didn’t really get any good pics cause I was in a hurry to get things done yesterday before an early dinner.
Was debating on taking it easy today, but there’s some stuff I can do and don’t have any other plans🤷🏻‍♂️

So you think painting the dash area black was a final step before windshield?

As one of my favorite teachers used to say, "Nothing to it, but to do it!"

Sounds like you have a plan.
