floor rust

I am having trouble with the front body mounts as I do not have a way to take the body off the frame, I have tried the sawsall and the cut off wheel. So my question is how do i remove the body mount?

I have another question how do i pull dents like in the rear of the truck. The pic can say more than what i can, I have tried to push the dent out but no good can not seem to get a good push on the panel but it is hard to get to. Any ideas would be great. YEs that is my new e brake when i bought the fj55 this is the only pic i had on hand. I still have to fix that. Thanks in advance

can you get a chunk of 2x4 in there from the inside and beat on that? Then use a dent puller to "finese" from there?

I have started to repair the rust in the toyota i have the back done now but the front is giving me problems as the front body mounts are rusted out i do not have all the tools i need to fix them also the money has slowed to a crawl. I am still pushing forward to fix the floor pans and all the little rust hole on the outside.

I have found the nasty stuff called bondo on the front fenders the metal under the five pounds of the stuff is good just needs to be shaped better and the welds ground down. I have done only one side with a wire wheel and it is taking a long time, are there any better ways of removing the junk?
Thanks in Advance

First time starting a thread so bear with me.
I am start this project with a 1971 FJ55 Landcruiser with a F motor with aftermarket headers and a GM 2 Jet carb???? the rest of the FJ55 is stock to my knowledge.

Problems that I have are some rust, water is leaking form some where i have sealed the front window with some silicone just as a way to stop the water. The clutch is gone to nothing, but it still drives:confused:. The age is starting to show with a few wrinkles and blemishes (dents, scratches).

Pros. Spare rims and tires, roof rack, new tires, it runs and drives and the rear window works.

Very cool looking Pig! Keep us posted!!!

You can try chemical stripper to soften it up and then use a scraper to scrape it off. I found hitting the scraper with a hammer helped a lot. Otherwise, there are other rust/paint stripper wheels that are good. These ones work really great for paint/rust. They'll eventually get clogged with bondo though.

body mounts

Well today i used the plasma cutter at school today to cut the 14 ga sheet metal i picked up for free from the steel shop, It always helps to be nice and respectful. So now to weld up the new mounts in and i should have some pics up by the end of the weekend.:bounce::wrench:

Well over the weekend end up getting sick with a stomach virus so the body mounts are slow going.

Please help

Started work on the body mounts but i am having a hard time removing the old rusted body mounts. I have tried a saws all, cut off wheel and hand saw. I do not have the time or the ability to remove the body of the frame so is there any trick to removing the body mounts. Also i have tried to drill out all the spot welds but i cannot access the rest of the spots. Thanks in advanced

I think I would drill out what ever spot welds you can and then bend the material back and use an air chisel. Not sure if this will work but you should be able to knock the welds off that you can't get to.

body mounts

So i was able to cut the rest of the rusted part of the body mount off, all i used was a hand saw blade. So i fab up some body mounts, but before i burn them in can i get anyone who knows welds to grade my work as i am new to welding. So every comment good or bad helps. I have to make another mount so i want to know if it will work for the load of the fj55. The metal is 14 ga if that helps. Thanks in advance, and a special thanks to all of you, you have help me out so much so thanks for all that you guys have done and posted.

Project Rusty Gold. you should see if school will let you borrow Plasma cutter. I used it on most of my floor pan work.

Thanks Bob.

The shop plasma cutter was bolted to the wall of the shop so i could not move my car to it, also driving with the mount out could damage the body.

More work done

Well the snow is falling with about 15inches on the ground the pig is hiding in the garage also having a 10 deg. slope for a drive way does not help. I have finished the body mounts for the passenger side which was not as much fun as I though . Well next is to pull the engine.
So here is my question are there any tips and trick that help with pulling the engine out.
Thanks in advance
