Took the 40 out again. I'm really loving this setup. I still have yet to lift a tire, and getting used to the flex and how to drive it. I kinda want to lower it about another inch just because the lower the better. My concern about doing this though is the long front shackles allow the front springs to move through their arch. If I put smaller shackles on I'm not sure if it will still allow for enough movement. I also think I'm going to move the rear axle back an inch. Maybe 2 inches. Every bit of extra wheelbase helps. Also I'm going to totally rework the traction bar-i really question it's strength. I snapped it in Moab, and since patched it and reinforced it. But I have my doubts it'll hold up as is. I don't know if I mentioned this earlier, but I'm running inner tunes with the beadlocks. Krawlers have a tendency to burp the bead at low pressure. Rather than welding on heavy inner beadlocks-which I don't have clearance for anyway as it would hit the brakes and tie rod-the tubes fix this. Plus it's tough to perfectly seal beadlocks, the tubes never leak air. I drilled separate holes for the tubes valve stem, the old valve stems remain with the cores removed. Without bead locks, tubes should not be used. When u air down tires without beadlocks, the rim will spin some in the tire which would tear a tube apart.

Upgraded my winch solenoid with a Albright solenoid. I also wired the smaller and simpler Ramsey 3 wire controller. I retained the factory cables so I had to move the hole for the winch control. I bought a aluminum box cover from Crawlorado. Really nice piece for the money.

Well I finally put this thing on a lift to stretch her legs and look at what hits where. I'm thinking of putting fj60 rear springs in the back. I just got a pair for free. Taller front shock mounts and longer front shocks would net me more front travel. It would cost quite a bit more money though. My front driveshaft slip joint is maxed out. Any more droop and it would slide apart, brake hose is also maxed out. Not sure I really need anymore flex though, but if I want more up front a new driveshaft will be 500ish. The rear shocks are plenty long, and I need different springs to fully utilize them. I had the hood propped open to look at body flex. The lift is at 40" height here for reference.

one nice side affect of the shackle reversal is how the axle moves up and back, rather than up and front. Saves my pretty fenders lol

What would be the purpose of more travel, are there trails you want to run that you can't? It looks pretty well dialed in.
It is pretty well dialed in I think too. I don't think I'll do anymore to the front especially due to the cost it would take to get more travel. I was mainly just mentioning the upgrades it would take to get more travel. A lot of people are not aware a sua setup can flex much, so it just shows it can, an even more so if wanted with longer shocks and long travel driveshaft. The rear I'm thinking of doing the FJ60 leafs because they have beefier bushings. This would give me more travel in the rear, be very little labor to swap-they just bolt right in with a little modification, and be less maintenance in the long run with the beefier fj60 bushings. I'm in no hurry though, maybe when I beef up my wrap bar I'll throw them in.

I think FJ60 rears will move your axle back and necessitate other mods.

here's some spring data I collected a while back, if it's wrong let me know and I'll correct. looks like you should be OK with the adjustment in the perch

So it looks like even with perch it would move the axle 1.5" rearward. But from pics I've seen its not noticeable. I don't want to screw up the look of the truck. I think I'll move the axle back an inch with the current springs and see how it looks. Thank-you for the info

I really love the wide stable, low suspension you have achieved. And not to mention great travel. I happen to have a 60 axle an 80 axle and a 40. I hope you don't mind if I copy this someday. I also keeping the stock 40 body lines without bashing them off the rocks is a benefit too.
