The seat back you have pictured above is correct for a 1961 FJ40 and for a 1960 FJ25. 1958 and 1959 FJ25 seat backs, however, are shorter and have a tube attached horizontally to the bottom of the seat back.

I know this because I didn't learn until after I spent stupid money both for the seats and for upholstery that the driver seat I bought for my 1961 FJ40 is actually for a 1958/1959 FJ25. Doh!

No, the vinyl should wrap only to the screw holes, not beyond, and of course the rounded corners of the seat backs are left exposed.

the top didn't go over the metal, but between it and the the canvas sack pillow of horsehair. but it was like a pillow with flaps to bolt it to the seat back, it just had the canvas sack that held the horsehair as the back

ignore drivers seat back , it was replaced years ago, but passenger side i believe was original

Yea, my passenger side looks the same as yours and I also had the horsehair pad. It's the driver's side that leaves me curious. It has to be original. It shows no signs of alterations and is of the exact same construction and details as the rest of the covers, even down to the two colors of stitching.

I'm no seamstress, so this will have to do for now. The whole boot was assembled and then sprayed body color from the factory, but I just couldn't bring myself to paint vinyl.

The change was made during 1960 and was probably part of the big change during 1960. Front motor mount changed from a single bracket across the front of the engine to two on the sides. Tool box under the left side seats got shorter. Engine went from F120 to F135. My two early FJ25 had the early style seat frame. The older of the two post change 25s didn't come with seat but my newest 25 had the new frame so I assume the other one did two since it has the shorter tool box.

I will hopefully be around my late 60 FJ25 this weekend. I have the driver's seat from later 62 as well as what is left of the 25's upholstery. Believe the 25's is still original. I also have seats from another 62 I got with a FST tub. Plus jump seats from a 61 that I believe are still original. Front seats were recovered black so I figure if they recovered the back they would have matched the fronts. I think right now everything was the coral color except the late 62 which I remember being more red. While the cruiser had been repainted a couple of times I believe the original was red. The seat frame is still red. The original passenger's seat was still there when I first looked at it in a junk year but by the time I purchased the cruiser it was gone.

So Splangy when we you have them available for sale. Shift boots came out great.

Hi folks, a bit of a hijack Jeff, but I got a slot at a local upholstery shop and need some detailed finished work photo's of the front 25 seats as my original covers were not original, Jump seats are fine that I have to copy. This is a late 25 with drivers seat's back panel on the rear face of the tubing. and the pass side on the inside like the jump seats. Also how tall are the seat bottom cushions? I need to get my original seat springs cleaned and powder coated tomorrow. I have trouble downloading photo's from IH8MUD so could you E-mail pardion@Comcast.net Thanks, John Project Old Fart

I sent my original covers from my 1962 to Shane a few months ago (I sent him my money over a year ago, but that's another story). The late FJ25 front seats are the exact same as the 1961-1962 front seats. I can see if Shane is done with mine and have them shipped to you. I have a feeling he's not done yet. He's been ill for the past year it seems.

I need a better sewing machine before I could charge money for them. Or maybe I just need to learn how to sew better!

I disagree. Need to make these available. Four FJ25s and none have anything left of the boot.

I need to reread thru this thread. Is the location listed where you can buy this material? Not sure it's worth worrying about red or coral. Anyone who has the big bucks to spend on one restored isn't going to notice the difference. Same with spending big bucks to have them made 100% correct. Do you know if Shane is having issues with all his orders or only the seat covers. I know you sent your money over a year ago. Looking for the lettering for the FJ45 tailgate and one of his custom glove box door shifting plate. I believe he is having these items made but I believe that's true of the seat covers. I haven't followed this enough to know if he has a full time job and Metric is a side job or if Metric is a full time job and he is just to sick to deal with his vendors.:meh:

On a completely different note have you got anything in the works for a canvas top? Last thing I remember is one of Shane's friends up in Oregon was going to work with the guy in Southern California who a original top to make them. This is at least the fourth attempt I know of to get soft tops made that would be for sale.:bang:

what john said, anxiously awaiting soft tops and seats for '62 and earlier

I was hopeful when the gentleman for Southern California spoke about having his Softtop reproduced as it had the metal window rings.

i've got one of the ocd repros, but i've heard he sold his stuff now, so not much help there. thinking i might get it modified tho. he made it like the standard fj40 top with the side windows rolling up, i want the entire side to zip out like the factory ( just with zipper, not turnbuttons)

I know the ship has sailed on the OCD. Badger may still be a option if your looking to spend more than most paid for there cruiser. I was hopeful Abe in Colorado may have been able to make them if I got him a tub and bows to use as a pattern. But he was unable to find anyone local to make tops and went offshore. The lack of tub and bows in Pakistan prevented them from being made there. Marshall (Trollhole) is to far away to get a tub and bows too. While not correct the one on a early 40 Mexico didn't go anywhere either. Am I missing any?
