I found a sample of red vinyl at my local fabric store and ordered 4 yards of it. It arrived today and is an excellent match. It's manufactured by a company named Spradling. The color is Garnet and is from their Allegro line. The texture, color, and sheen are probably the closest you can find. The first photo was taken in the shade and the second in direct sunlight. I should have some seat covers and a shifter boot made within the next week.

That makes sense. I think the coral was used from 1961-1967

The red was used on FJ25's, but I'm not sure if it was for the entire production run. Anybody know if the early 25's were also red?

great match. i will be interested to compare this to the seats in my stablemate 25. they are in nice condition and original i think. the po bought it in 71 or thereabouts (he gave me a copy of his receipt) and told me had never recovered them. i would presume the aus knocked down 25s came with jap seats.

i too have only seen one 61 in person and it has the remnants of nothing!

Looks great Jeff. I've got original jump seats, and Dave gave me a swatch from the original seats he had redone...gonna see if I can find some of your material to compare to.

Jeff, did you get a look at what my shift boot was made of? I can pull it and take a look, or you can borrow it for a pattern. Didn't realize you were that close to doing it.......going to listening class in the morning....

Jim, mine is still 75% intact and was made from the same red vinyl as the seats. I was able to get some good measurements from it and will be able to make a new one as soon as the thread I ordered arrives. And I didn't realize I was that close either. I had to pull the trans hump anyways, so just figured now was the time to do it.

Dean, Keep in mind that this is the FJ25 red vinyl, not to be confused with the FJ40 Coral color.

I'm not intending to hijack the thread but given the discussion about FJ40 Coral, any manufacturer/color suggestions? Also were the 60/40's ribbed or solid?
Great lead!

From what I've been able to tell:

1958-1960 FJ25 = Smooth, red covers
1961-1967 FJ40 = Smooth, coral covers
1968-1970 FJ40 = Ribbed, grey covers

I'm not sure if the ribbed (pleated) seats carried over until 1973 when the buckets came out.
