Hi everyone. By any chance is there a pair of split windshield glass with frames somewhere outthere for sale?

Someone posted a classified on here I think about 3-4 years back. I tried to find it but was unable recently when someone else was asking. They had 5 or 6 of them. I think from Middle East maybe military models. Price wasn’t to bad (cheaper than normal us spec) and the post was bumped many times over months as they didn’t sell fast.

I was looking for a good metal regular us spec windshield for months and it was the only windshield frame post forsale on mud for a while. Is the main reason I remember

I remember they looked complete. Glass and all
Maybe my post will jog someone’s memory or the person that posted

@K243014 This is the only picture I have... the owner was only a 3 poster here on mud and vanished in 16’

Here is his description in a conversation I had with him:

“ I had the same problem I wanted one but they are so hard to find. I made mine from an old 1973 fj40 frame I had. I welded in a 1/2 inch square tubing to the center with edging on each side. Made some templates and cut some 3/16 metal bar in the shape of the fold out windows. I had glass cut and i sandwiched them with some gaskets from steele rubber. I spaced the Auto glass apart with 1/8 bar.Theinside has screws all the way around to hold the glass and frame together. As far as the parts I made all of them except for the knobs are from a hitachi miter saw. I used 1/8 steel bar for the support rods. I cut apart a lot of the windshield frame to repair rust spots and to position the weld nuts to the inside of the frame for the top hinges and the support bases. because I moved the position of the wiper holes I hadd to switch to an aftemarket windshield wiper 12v black from speedway motors. Trying to figure out how to post some pics.”

Never got more pictures

That looks good. Looks like I will have to do the same thing he did.

Probably wouldn't be too hard or expensive to make but would be time consuming. You could use this as gasket for the glass...

We can turn this into a how can we make a split windshield thread :)

I have used (and mentioned in my post above) Steele rubber products... great customer service and a HUGE variety of rubber

I was thinking a push on weather stripping and you could easily use the lip that the windshield used to sit on to hold it

See these:

Here is a lid stay that could be used...

Honestly though do you really need a split window for this? Seems like the 1 piece glass would be a lot simpler. Just wouldn't be quite as authentic, but only a few ih8mud dudes would know. You could remove the split seam that the original glass seal goes into in the factory frame. Weld in a new one that is flush with the back side of the frame. Attach "D" rubber to the new seam. Then use oem windshield glass rubber around a stock windshield. So the seal would be the D gasket mating with the back side of the oem rubber. Then when it's closed it would look stock except for the hinges. You could drill a couple holes in the factory windshield and add a strip of metal in the center for support and another lid stay in the center.
