Hi All,
I've got 4 FJ40 Split Windshields for sale. The windshields are split down the middle & hinged, so that you can open up each half to let air flow into the truck. Great for non AC, hot weather climates. These are all top wiper mount models, and have an oem soft top channel welded into them, so would be the very best fit with an early model soft top truck, but could be modified by skilled people to work on any FJ40 I believe. The wiper motors that you see mounted in the pics are all junk as far as I'm concerned, so if I were thinking of buying one, I would plan to swap over my wiper set up from my current windshield. I have no real idea what these are worth, so I'm going to ask $750 each plus shipping (I'll crate & send via Forward Air to your local terminal). If anyone happens to have an idea on value, feel free to chime in & assist! Feel free to ask any questions.
Thanks,
Abe

No idea on value, never seen one, pretty bad ass.

Good luck with your sale!

Okay . . . educate us please, whitey45. What Toyota model(s) were fit originally with this type of windshield?

Surely these are not for a 40, are they?

Either way . . . is there a reason they would not fit a 40?

Any idea about the seal on these when closed? Do they seal up or leak like crazy in the rain while driving...?

Hi Red,
As mentioned above, these are 40 series windshields, so they will fit any of the various 40 series, and I don't think you could make them fit anything else, unless you were a real pro fabricator (I couldn't). The windshield wiper motors are all electric as far as I can tell. They look like you would wire them each up, and then turn them on individually. They all have a little switch on them for on/off, so I think you could have only your driver's side wiper on, or both, or just the passenger, if there was some odd desire. But like I said above, I think you should consider them as garbage, and replace with the US spec wiper set up, like we have here. Some of the motors on there look broken to begin with, and even the best of them are probably pretty bad. Just my theory though, I'm not an expert on these....
Thanks,
abe

Hey Mark,
I honestly can't answer your question. I've never driven a truck with a split windshield on it, and before these 4, I'd never even seen one before. I can tell you that they seem to seal pretty tightly, as the opening mechanism sort of cantilevers a tight pressure against the windshield when closed. But I can't say how dry they are if caught out on the highway in a storm. My honest hunch would be that these are probably not very good in very wet climates. More openings & seals means more chances to leak. Plus I've never heard mention of one of these windshields anywhere other than places that are hot & dry. So they seem like they are purpose built for that sort of climate. But that is just a guess. I know that a few people on here have this set up in their trucks already, so maybe someone that owns one will chime in with their thoughts.
best,
Abe

Questions...can you still use your upper dash pad and just a rough ballpark idea of shipping to Texas?

Hey Tex,
I've never mounted one myself, so I can't say for certain, but I don't know why it wouldn't fit exactly like a standard windshield, so I think you can keep your dash pad. I can't say exactly what shipping would be, since I don't have anything crated yet, but I can say that it shouldn't be more than $75 at the very most, to move via Forward Air, terminal to terminal. That would mean you have to go pick it up at your local F.A. terminal, but that is usually pretty close to every major town.
Best,
Abe

These are a very good deal. I had two that I sold for $1,000 each very easily. I'd snap them up before gr8ful comes to his senses and raises the price.

I would bite only if I could be assured that my original 1974 Fj40 Original soft top wipers would work...judging by the photos they may hang on the center pioece..but as others have said...I could be wrong but am very interested...

I would think you would have to use two separate motors(with a way to limit travel) for these to work, because like you said....it would get hung up on the center piece, the wipers will also need to be hinged to move when the window opens

cool as heck, never thought I would see 4 pairs in the US

found listed as an option in this euro(I think) lit I have, want to say its 69-70

Do these fit the existing dash pad?

Thanks.

Hey Shep,
I can't say for sure, as I've never had one before, but I don't see why they wouldn't They just look like a plain old windshield to me on the bottom, so I would think they fit just like a non split windshielf. But it is defintely one of those areas where, "I don't know just what I don't know." so I could be missing something that isn't occuring to me. Similar to the wipers question above. it never occured to me that regular wipers might not fit....

Also, as an update to everyone that is interested right now, I think I have three of these sold (sold pending funds, but a deal is made), and I'm talking to someone about the fourth that is interested, but looking for some more confirmations before making a decision. So they might all be spoken for at this point, but I'll keep people updated as to progress.
Best,
Abe
