should I use the factory spare tire carrier or leave it clean? In my past restorations I have always removed the tire carrier and went with a bumper mount, but since i am trying to stay as close to factory I am debating on this one

I think you answered your own question...if you plan to stay as true to stock as you can, then you need to go back with the original carrier. Very nice work so far

Hi, Getting ready to do this on our 1982, still rounding up parts for ours, enjoy your time togeather. Mike

Cool Mike, good to hear it all coming together! Did you find your frame yet?

As for restoring an old cruiser with the family...my daughter and I have been working on our old '64, but things came up, so we had to put it aside for a little bit. No worries, such is life. That said, it is really cool to see her learn to work on this old rig, and work she does! She is very proud of the fact that she is restoring the old 40 with me, and keeps pictures on her phone of the old 40 to show her friends...BTW...the guys are floored when they hear that she actually works on the old truck

Be sure to let your daughter do some welding. Mine really enjoys it and is getting pretty proficient. She's 14 and I let her do any welding I can (unless I want to have the fun), and we're now making tool racks to sell for her to make money. A wire-feed welding is easier, but she has used my old arc (stick) welder, too.

Update

Getting frame back in a couple of days, body in a week or so. I load the motor to take for a full rebuild. As I was loading it I was thinking should I go ahead and do the 3fe swap, it would not be that much more money?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

None of them are great, real steel has a good rear floor and the 1/4s are ok. Todd is a nice guy. Ccot does not have a very large selection anymore. Just be prepared to do alot of modification on your own. You can see my rear seal was in really bad shape and I choose to remake it instead of using the new one I had.

I hear the wiring is a bitch

Nice/fast build. Wish mine was going so fast.

My 6 year old daughter helps me out once in a while with the quite / safe jobs. Its fun to be able to spend time with your love ones and still get to work on the fun stuff. Can't wait to get my 40 done next year so I can spend time driving and camping with the family.
