That plastic retainer I mentioned is the one in the picture. It breaks and then the harness is free to contact the egr pipe. You might consider removing it and then use the zip tie trick.

So, would you have Martin rebuild it again? I want my HG replaced as PM and it seems that Martin may be the closest shop/person that has experience with the 1FZ-FE...

100%. He knows these motors well and now with Landtank's brass bushing there is nothing he can't do. Realize Martin is a machine shop, not a mechanic. I had K&H do the work.

So on a whim I packed up the kid and some camping supplies and drove to Yosemite. I will do up a proper write up with pics and s*** but here from the trip I got the following CELs: 303, 325 & 401. The knock sensor one is new. I talked at length with Richard from K&H about doing the new harness. He literally begged and pleaded with me NOT to make him change out the harness. He said he knows exactly how to repair it and it only requires removing the hood, the EGR and pipe and then getting into the loom. He said he has never ever had to redo a harness repair and begged to try that first before going thru an entire harness. I figured I'd go that route first.

Also, the motor started getting really hot, 226º and the A/C started blowing warm. That was climbing the Grapevine. Stayed hot the entire trip (195-215º). Turns out my JDM quit working, didn't notice it wasn't on, stupid. And then yesterday morning on the first start up of the day, the truck starts with NO clutch engagement. Meaning there was no typical roar of the fan when it starts. Tested it two more times, no roar. Dammit. Fan clutch doesn't work and JDM fan doesn't work. I'm screwed and I'm heading out of the Tioga pass INTO the desert. It was 105º*on the valley floor in Yosemite and 102º*most of the way along the 395. Totally sucky. I just got the fan clutch a year or so ago and had it modified. I guess its time for a new one and this time I'll get 25k installed. So frustrating. I bought some Methanol and a spray bottle. Everytime I made a tourist stop I would spray the radiator. Dropped the temps pretty damn quick. I'm definitely going to add spray nozzles to the front of the radiator.

Engine harness has been repaired. According to Richard at K&H there were three wires that needed to be repaired. The battery was disconnected so it still needs to reset but I can already feel a big difference. All I need to do now is getting the overheating under control and the SC will finally get installed!!!

I wonder if standard aluminum tape like you use to seal up around your ac system would work.

FYI, I messed a little with the aluminum tape idea, but after I put a flame to it and it went up pretty quick I kicked that idea to the curb. Must be something in the adhesive.

So I just ended up fashioning up a heat shield out of an aluminum beer can. Hopefully that will help. FWIW, my plastic harness clamp had broken loose, so I've zip tied it back over. Good idea to check them suckers if you haven't.

So just did another 700 mile trip up and down the Coast of CA looking for trails and cool camping spots. Found what I was looking for :D

Richard at K&H's fix to the engine harness too care of all three of my CELs INCLUDING the dreaded 401!!!

Also, I had the fan clutch switched out with the original one that was on my truck from day one. Well, over heating issue was non-existent. Awesome!
