it's not the valve, it's the EGR pipe that gets so damn hot and is very close to the harness

so, to prevent melting of the harness and wire insulation, we wrapped the harness in heat resistant foil and zip-tied it away from the EGR pipe - not complicated to do

You're right. I wrote valve but I know I meant pipe. Read my mind dammit! :flipoff2:

The new harness is coming next week so I will prewrap that section of the harness and of course extend the connector I will need to for the SC install.

really weird s*** happens when the harness melts (fortunately that wasn't on my truck) - someone should make a public service announcement about wrapping it and keeping it away from the EGR tube

I use the aluminum heat shield method. Protects and dissipates heat before it gets to the harness.

To protect the wiring you need to extend on a SC application I wrap it in 3M Glass cloth tape

Wiring screaming for a heat shield...Stop the heat before it get to the wiring

Thats what I was getting at. I don't think the stock wiring harness has that wrap on it. I *think* it was added by Mr. T

Could be wrong, either way I will add a few more layers to it. :D

EDIT: I'm wrong. Always came that way but it still fails. I will be wrapping! (BTW, this is NOT my motor)

Have you ever considered building an external EGR system? On top of the benefits for the number six cylinder, one can place things in better locations. I have an old thread around here about how to do it, but the pics are probably long gone.

Never heard of it. Link/pics or it didn't happen :flipoff2:

wow that harness isn't cheap! 82121-60343 - Over $500! Can't wait to see picks of the SC build!
