I'm gonna be putting an early wheel and horn button up for sale tomorrow. The wheel is a good resto candidate, the horn button is minty.

You've got first dibs, cause your the one that will make it worthy.
Clear coating your wheel tonight.

Fixing cracks on the outer ring takes a lot of time and multiple attempts. I’ll polish it day after tomorrow. There is tape in the center ring of that pic.

I’m starting to restore other “smalls,” sandblast, prime or cerakote, paint, and clear. Even if you have rusted & pitted parts, I can get return them to their former glory. LOL

Jimmy

I will be installing my ‘new’ steering wheel in the 45 on Monday and will be posting pics.

One of the things I hadn’t thought of is that I’m quite fond of my Brody knob with the Saginaw steering. It will be a test of the refinishing to see how it holds up to the clamp.

Let me know,if you have any problems you know where to find me.

Nice work birdhead. When I freshened up my lettering I found a razor blade worked good to remove excess paint. I carefully and lightly drug the blade backwards. Probably at a 60 degree angle.:cheers:

That was my first attempt, I removed the paint and used a plastic razor blade and hopefully they will look good after I clear them.

Any and all tips/trick are greatly appreciated. Keep them coming @thethebigredrocker. The fiberglass top is coming up and it has a lot of chips/gashes in it, if anyone has tips.

Here are my wheels, side by side. The one on the left is 53 years old, and still very shiny. It has about 17cracks in it, but is rock solid. The one on the right is my new addition from Jimmy. It was a faded, cracked up POS I got real cheap from @a77fj40 a little over a month. I figured this would put Jimmy to the test. I didn’t take a ‘before’ pic, but there’s hundreds of guys that could supply one.

I will try to get a pic on the 45 in the morning.

If you have any problems I will gladly repair any issue you have. Also if you have any of the rings that hold the Toyota symbol to the rest of the horn button let me know.

@Birdhead
Let me tell ya, he made my 59 fj25 wheel look new. Great guy and pricing. Will use him again. Thanks Mike

@Birdhead
Boy wouldn’t it be nice if Mark’s Offroad had box full of those horn emblem inner rings;)

I do. But that box-full is still smaller than the amount of horn buttons and steering wheels I have to sell, and I’m not looking to increase my deficit.

I understand completely, thanks.

Mark, have seen a fogswitch like this for an early 60s model ?

Huh?

BTW, I drove the 45 home last night from the shop (slept there Monday night) with the new wheel. In the dark, I couldn’t tell the difference. But when I thought about it, I realized that my hands subconsciously felt for the old cracks the way your fingertips find the hollows on the backside of the wheel.
