Thanks, I’ve learned a lot from YouTube and practicing. I broke down and bought a high end spray gun and that made a huge difference.Nice work
I’m using PC-7, which should not shrink like that. Send it back and I will fix it. Is that the one I just sent back to you, o the other one I did when I first started? The early ones were done completely different. Either way I’ll fix it.Jimmy, here’s a close up of one spot on my wheel, 10 days later:View attachment 1595769
It’s like whatever filler you used just blistered up out of the crack. Not sure what caused this. But I sure am glad that it happened to me, one of your early guinea pigs, before you start marketing this service.
What are the specs on the filler you’re using?

Here is a pic, I have them put a little extra metallic in it ( whatever they do ) for the metallic flake and that seems to work nicely. It’s called Toyota ash gray metallicWhat color code is that you are using on the gray parts?

Did any of the other cracks have shrinkage like that?Jimmy, here’s a close up of one spot on my wheel, 10 days later:View attachment 1595769

The only thing I can think of is I didn’t drill the horizontal holes in the existing crack that acts like rivets.Jimmy, here’s a close up of one spot on my wheel, 10 days later:View attachment 1595769

Every where I looked when I started this said PC-7 is the best and what others use specifically for steering wheels. I ordered another brand last night and will do some side by side testing. I have had trouble with steering wheels with substantial cracks in the outer ring and usually don’t repair them. I will repair it and make sure I put the horizontal anchor points in that area to prevent it from shrinking. It will only take a couple of days one to apply epoxy and 1 or two to repaint and clear. I apologize for the inconvenience. This is the wheel you just sent. To be honest, I’ve got so much construction going on in the shop right now I’m not sure where the first wheel is.
It’s supposed to warm up again this coming week, so I’d just as soon let the wheel cycle through some more hot-cold. I felt another crack as I was driving home last night, but it was dark, and I didn’t examine it again. Either tomorrow or Tuesday.
I appreciate that, I think I need to let my first application of epoxy set up, put it in and out of the sun ( several times ) then reapply a final coat. It’s been cold here, so your information will help me make a better product. Always learning. I’ll call your machine next week about some parts.Jimmy, I am SO not worried. Like I said before, I’m gonna be one of those guys that says ‘I remember when that guy got started!’ IOW, in it for the long haul.
Just finished another one, can Also restore the Toyota emblem now.
