Sometimes dogs just happen. We agreed last Friday was going to be road maintenance day on our little country lane with the neighbors. Typically it involves a truck and transfer of cold mix, everyone showing up with their tractors and a day of patching potholes. This year the road was in pretty good shape so the couple next door picked up a couple loads in their trailer and on the way back noticed a box discarded on side of the road. The box had blown over on its side and the wife could see a little huddled shape trying to stay away from the trucks speeding by.

Long story short, we ended up with him. He’s about 10 weeks old, looks like he has some shepherd in him, knows the word ‘no’, appears to be house broken and gets along with Cal.

When our female shepherd died we said we were good with just Cal. Then agreed we would take in a shelter dog eventually. This little boy needed a home and he’ll have a good one. 5 acres to run on, already had his first Landcruiser ride (doesn’t get car sick like his big uncle) and Cal can pass on his knowledge of protecting the place from bears, pigs and mountain lions. Although every now and then Cal comes home with a deer leg so maybe he and the lion just have an ‘arrangement’ we don’t know about.

I’ve always thought that some who takes their dogs for a ride has to be a pretty good person… someone who takes them in a Land Cruiser …off the charts… very cute pup
