Yea - I decided we wanted a pup in the house after an 18month break from losing 2 within a year (always had 2 around since graduating from college). Can tell ya, raising a 8week old puppy isn't the same when your 58 as when your in your 20's, 30's, or even early to mid 40's. I took the responsibility for raising our puppy (think its my wife's way of passive aggressively saying "you wanted the puppy - you deal with the hard months"), so feeding, constant trips outside for house training, exercise, and obedience training has been my life since he came home. At 6months old - he's becoming an amazing adolescent, with all the signs of growing into a great dog (should earn his CGC next month). Funny thing is when my wife tries to call him inside or get him to do something for her, and he looks at her with serious side eye (Newfies are known for their judgemental looks), and she asks why he won't listen to her. I'm pretty quick to remind her I've spent damn near 24-7 with the dog, and if she would help with feeding, grooming, training, or getting his exercise....usually gets me some serious side eye/glares from her

Now I'm just getting my pup a bit older/better trained before I bring another chaos demon into the house and re-start the process, though I know it'll be easier with an older dog to help train/teach the new pup.

Dogs ♥️, because people suck!

I hear the concerns about aging and dog ownership a lot. I always say if you are old, get an old dog. If you can't afford ownership, foster.

I'm also a huge fan of multiple dogs. They entertain each other and it really helps cushion the impact of loss
Agree, we have always had 2 dogs. We couldn’t leave Maggie our 6 year old lab without a companion in the daytime while we are working. They search the woods and pastures and chase armadillos as a team. Not thinking Tess is going to do much of that but we will see.

I’m only 56 but with busy work life for now, I’d hate to get a puppy and not be able to give it the time it deserves.

A pic of our Great Pyrenees…. Rosalita… getting a ride in the Taco. That purple towel is essential.., the Saint is lurking back there too.., lol

She was a Working dog on our farm since she was a puppy. We retired the old girl so she could enjoy harassing the Saint and hanging with us in comfort.

Gee, that Newfoundland is gorgeous. I’ll be 73 VERY soon. Our puppy is 14 weeks old and my wife only started to take them outside to pee because she freaks out if she pees inside. So rather than be cleaning that up, she caves in… it is very hard by the end of the day with work around the house, work on the 40 and then feeding the three of them. I cook for them every night steaming vegetables and other supplemental foods, sweet potatoes, zucchini, cauliflower with their dry food. Dumbest thing we ever decided to do was get a puppy. The black lab was 2 when we adopted her a few months ago. We should have stopped there.

This is why I can’t finish the seats in my 40… only took 3 of us to give her a bath today

Loving that game….He’s riveted…..to the sofa!
As long as they’re happy…that’s the most important part

Who weighs more, St. or Pyraneesi ?
The Saint. He’s about 165lbs. The Pyrenees we rescued. She was a malnourished puppy and she’s deaf; she only got
To about 80lbs. She’s “my” dog and one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. The Saint is my wife’s buddy, but he’s got
Plenty of love (and drool) for everyone… lol.

Absolutely gorgeous Saint (and the Pyr is pretty cute too) - I LOVE giant breeds!!
Thank you! He’s a mighty handsome fella and extremely sweet. Chill too, except for when he runs around the house like a giant puppy flipping over furniture… lol.

My newfie has figured out if he jumps up onto the couch "mid-zoomie" he can hit the upright/back portion and knock it over. Gotta watch your knees when the big guys starts racing around!!

We buy most our meat from a local farmer. He breeds Newfies. It was extremely hard not to bring one of those fluff balls into our house. But, two giant dogs and a Pyrenees would be too much for our little place... lol.
