(on the recommendation of some guys in the 40/55 Series tech section, I'm posting this info here as well)

Hey Guys,

I figured I'd make a thread dedicated to the suspension options from Dobinsons for the FJ55 Land Cruiser. Up until recently, the leaf springs were only sold by special order, and made to order, which took forever, like 6 months or more. They're now stocked in the USA, but unfortunately they're a high price since they're hand formed at the Dobinsons factory in Rockhampton, Australia. There's not enough demand to build jigs to make them by machine like the other popular cruisers, Tacomas, etc.

First off, all parts are priced and listed here: 55 Series (1970-80) Archives - Exit Offroad - https://exitoffroad.com/product-category/toyota/land-cruiser/fj55-series/

Here's a breakdown of each component offered.

Front Leaf Springs
TOY-055F - Sold in pairs, 1.75" (45mm) lift

Rear Leaf Springs
TOY-056R - Sold in pairs, 1.75" (45mm) lift

Front Shocks
GS15-639S - Twin Tube - 492mm extended, 302mm compressed

Rear Shocks
GS59-651 - Twin Tube - 591mm extended, 363mm compressed

Front and Rear Greasable Shackle Kits (same on both ends)
SK59-015 and SK59-016 - greasable design, these do not add lift. They are sold in pairs, one left hand and one right hand side in each pair

Front and Rear Poly Bush Kits (same on both ends)
PB59-1014K - need 2 kits for 1 vehicle. Each kit has 12 half bushings, 6 sleeves, enough for both ends of 2 leaf springs and the top of the shackle

Front U-bolts
UB59-450K X 1 – Front right side u-bolts
UB59-453-3K X 1 – Front left side u-bolts

Rear U-bolts
UB59-453-3K X 2 – both sides

Front Steering Damper
SD59-823 - Big Bore foam cell bolt on replacement

And here is the page for a full kit, with all of those parts and options:

I don't have any photos of this setup installed on any FJ55's here. If you've bought a kit from me or Dobinsons in the past, please post up photos to share!!

I've got some pix of one I installed on a truck. Let me dig them up. Take the 3rd from bottom leaf out before install to make it sir right
Was just going to add that I got one for @RocketCityCrzrs recently but haven't seen the install pictures yet

Looks good. Nice to have a lift option that doesn't require relocating any spring hangers.
Nope, thats why i like the Dobinsons over some of the other kits. I have an older Cruiser Outfitters kit on my truck (avatar pic) and it is awesome, rides great, and flexes well BUT required cutting hangars and moving them. Kurt and his guys do a great job putting that together, but i prefer not to cut good trucks if not necessary.

Yes mine has the 70 series springs that Cruiser Outfitters sells so the hangers are already moved on mine.....makes me think though.

Here is the Dobinsons lift installed on a pig with 3rd leaf out.

This pic looks like the Pig is not on level ground, eh?
Is the ass end lower than the front in the pic? The Pig looks level, so does the Pig have a stink bug stance on level ground?
Are the rear wheels pushed forward in the wheel opening?

Ok, let me see if I can answer all these questions. That picture was about 15 minutes and 2 miles after install. After a few days and miles out settled down nicely and is dead level. If anything it rakes front a hair.

@scrapdaddy no sir not really. This customer doesn't load it down much like you guys do, but without taking out that spring the shackles went the wrong way

I need new springs but not necessarily a lift. I have been looking for a solution that was more plug and play. I think this may be the way to go.

Curious if anyone else has had experience since this thread last summer?

Great another option. Only 1.75" lift? What size tires in that picture above?

Correct, that's the average lift height on a leaf spring Toyota so that everything still aligns up and functions well
