Went out for a little overnight romp out near Gerlach, NV. Had three days/two nights planned but it seems my frame had a hidden crack on the top tube (bottom side covered by the frame bag) that fully spread and broke on this ride forcing me to cut it short. Thought something felt off on the bike about 15 miles in when I got speed wobbles on a slight downhill but didn't notice the frame was broken all the way through until I got to camp at mile 50. Splinted the tube with some tent stakes and ski straps and rode the 50 miles back to my car the next day. Seems to be a manufacturing defect and everything is being covered to make things right.

Damn man! Beautiful ride Funk-man.

25 miles ride yesterday on the newly built Trek. No photo evidence, so below is the previous post showing the bike. First time riding that long in a couple years, but the bike held up well and is super comfortable - the shorty stem really helps. Maybe the most comfortable road bike I've ever had. 25 miles isn't that far, but when you're trying to get back in the swing of things it's a milestone. My only complaint was the low-miles, used Brooks B17 saddle I picked up has a ways to go before it's broken in. It wasn't causing me any pain, but most of my other B17s have a lot more miles and are much more pliable.

Meanwhile Karen road her 40lb 1983 MTB with knobby tires and didn't break a sweat.

man i love seeing you guys riding. i’ve had a quiet winter of riding bewteen a foot injury and crappy weather. doing another trip with my wife to nevada next month to desert 🌵 ride again. new tires to be mounted and a few tune ups but it’ll be nice to be back in the saddle again.
Hey man, you’re not the only one. I’ve been dealing with a bad hip (impingement and labral tear) so all I do is look at posts here and on Strava and throw myself a pity party. 😂 I’m going to come back, I just want to be pain free when I do.

Snow day. 4"-10" fresh snow. Made for a pretty brutal 4+ hour ride, then the battery died with no limp mode warning on the way back... This fawking tank is heavy. Reports were saying 4"-6" but from the looks of the trees and drifting, it must have been really windy and became 4"-10"+ lol. I was still gaining elevation and gave up. I finally realized it would be a rough trip back. I need 26" wheels and a fat 5.05" for this stuff.

Where is the trail?

Pedals striking the snow, this was the lower elevation.

60+F degree weather out all week, have to take advantage of this crazy weather.
Another low key quick ride to stay on the saddle yesterday, or I thought. Doing a little recovery on the body so have to take it easy for a while and no more death rides... Kind of crazy how easy it is to get into zone 4/5 on any kind of vertical. Goal was to be mostly 3 and went well beyond that unfortunately even with only 548' elevation gain.

I cannot believe that I was wearing short sleeves at 7,600 ft today. Luka and I had a blast riding in the forest today. I done good wearing him out 🤣

I rode 17 miles in one gear because my AXS was dead. Kinda different. I felt Beno-ey.

I assumed it was because one of the pogo pin battery contacts wasn't springing anymore. I've been bodging it with a tiny lump of alu foil for about 3 months.

When I got back I decided to solder a new one in. I did it with the derailleur on the bike ... which led to a fiddly, difficult, frustrating task. Everything is micro sized and bouncing on the power wires that act like springs. A surgical robot would have been helpful. 25 minutes and one vanished new pogo pin later (buy at least three if you plan to do this), and the der was fixed.

But it still didn't shift. Turns out the acute condition was an old-fashioned dead battery (I miss my XT Di2 with its 12 month battery charge). But at least I don't have to worry about bodging the stuck pogo anymore when I change batteries.

Don’t worry, they make derailleurs that are immune to dead batteries and bad contacts!
