I'm thinking you will need LED detox pretty soon!!!

I have the Depo tail lights I bought from Mot. The brake is already LED. For the turn signals I used:

Front and Rear Turn Signals
(4)1156 - amber------------------------------------------------------autolumination - Bayonet Item # Eagle Eye Tower 11led $24.00 (each)

The reverse lights are still incandescent as the technology for that hasn't quite got there yet.

What reverse lights did you install?

Just a quick Q on this -

Any hints at getting access to the instrument cluster shift light ?

Does the center white section just pull out from the back of the instrument cluster ?

I didn't pull too hard as the plastic is pretty brittle after 13 years.

I didn't have the tuner in the 80, just the Duramax.

The antenna up and down was a bit lethargic no matter what I did so that had to be corrected. Cut down and soldered a 3 SMD LED into the little bugger and it matches the others perfectly. I tried adding a 1 SMD LED to it like the other buttons but it just looked terrible. The way the button is made the light has to reflect left and right into a little pocket to illuminate the face and an LED pointed down just doesn't cut it. It is hard to take pics at night...the color is more blue in reality but the same brightness.

Before and after:

Wait a second, does the Antenna switch actually light up in stock form

I don't remember seeign it light up and from the pic of the switch itself pulled out, I don't see any space for bulbs :hmm:

BTW, you're INSANE!!

Reverse lights are stock....will be LED as soon as the technology catches up. Shouldn't be long now that headlights are OE LED on some models.

The shift section pulls out of the cluster. There are two tabs if my memory is correct. Put your screw driver under the top or bottom and pry up gently. You should see where the tabs are.

The antenna switch is a Type A (T3) 8MM base. All the other switches are the Type B (T4) 10mm base. Even in stock form the lighting isn't great. Nakman came over and we jammed a type B bulb into a Type A base to get his to light up in stock form. The bulb is too long and makes contact with the plastic so he is monitoring to see how how the incandescent bulbs get. I modified mine to accept a 3 surface mount led to get it to light up like the others.

Bulbs for 94 Dash Switches

Just switched out my dash lights when I installed the CDL in a 94. I bought the following from SuperbrightLEDs.com

NeoWedge series LED Lamp specs

NEO4-x fits Type B Sockets
NE03-x fits Type A Sockets

CDL - (1) NEO4-x White

Rear Defrost - (1) NEO4-x White to light Letters, (also needs an orange or amber NEO4-x to light when switched is pushed in, you might be able to reuse the condom on the regular powered NEOs, but I bought the High Powered and it won't)

ECT - (1) NEO4-x White

Antenna - (2) NEO3-x White

Rear Heater - (1) NEO4-x White

Overall, they look good. The High Power LEDs seem to point up mostly, which makes the lower lettering on the CDL switch a little dimmer than the upper. I thought the high powered LEDs would be worth it, but would suggest trying the regular ones since they look like they give off a little more light sideways, and they are only $1.29each, compared to $2.29each.

Got most of it taken care of today - ordered more type B neowedge as I figure I'll go the whole hog and switch out the shift indicator lights as well.

Pics ?

Once it's done right ;)

I picked up the white gauges as well - but it looks a bit scary separating the front perspex from the cluster - may just skip that unless someone has a super secret way to split the perspex and the cluster without breaking any more brittle 13 year old plastic clips ;)

A note for anyone doing the flasher mod from post #65. The current Tridon flasher does not have the little reverse jumper prong. Probably not the correct name but you can see it as pictured next to the Tridon flasher and black plastic adpater Toyota used with the original flasher. I had to de-solder this prong from the factory flasher for reuse. At first I wasn't sure if I would need it but if you look at the little black plastic adapter it has the B and E sides labeled and the only way to orient them correctly and have the L side make contact was to use the reverse jumper prong.

Update:

The "T10 Wedge Item # Superstar W/Heatsink Blue 7.99" LEDs I had in the dash burned out so I am going to try a new style.

What was in there:

What I am going to try:

I am going to run the fog light bulbs for reverse lights. LED technology isn't quite there yet.QUOTE]

I use headlight bulbs in my reverse lights, fitted a relay to take the load off the reverse light switch though.

Works fine in my Disco so should be OK in a LC

regards

Dave

Update:

The new LEDs are a cobalt blue instead of the teal looking blue. It is cool but a little too purple for my tastes. PC is still dead but my MB is on order so I'll post pics tonight if all goes well. I miss my photoshop... :frown:

Just threw these in the doors....yup they fit and yes they are brighter. Pattern is good but different as the top LED is close to the lens and isn't as dispersed.

Searching these out on the superlights website. Only found "SMD"s. Are they the correct lights for the interior side door lights?
Thanks for any help.

Updated the parts list post...

You may need to reverse the red and black wires. Take them out of the plug and swap.
