This is what a rear axle housing is supposed to look like. Full circle weld for diff cover and carrier to mate to, weld obvious.

This is what your housing looks like: crushed in about 1/4 inch, welds supplimented and ground down flush.

Got it!! Man this guy was ruff on these axles. I guess I will have to keep my eye open for a new housing since you don't have one.
Thanks
Dave

The '71 housing in the first pic will work just fine. All I have to do is lop off the shock pins and it will be like the '77. I can even make the provision for the second brake line hold down.

And it's HERE.

The 3rd member is done, the axleshafts will be done tomorrow, the backing plates on Tuesday. I'd like to keep moving.

The front axle is DONE! The final piece, the axle breather showed up today. Purdy. Might have to build me one!

Just want to apologize to everyone. I am extremely busy with my heavy equipment business right now. Long hours sunup to sundown 6 days a week. I will be back to my build soon I hope.

You should have a sig line something like "my daily driver can BURY your daily driver":bounce:

Yes it's hard to backfill what I consider my art but there is no remorse after I get my check ;)

Money fixes a lot of things. It's kind of like the artists that make sand or ice sculptures except they probably aren't compensated as well.

Goodness, talk about Cruiser Porn.....that's a keeper!

Do you know what knuckle kit was used on the rebuild?
