I got your message about the Aisan hubs. This question comes up regularly, so I figured a post, especially one with a pic, would be more beneficial to the group. After all, once you're done with any particular aspect of your project, you can chime in with your experiences as well.

So, the axle with the longer birf sticking out is yours, the 76-78 variety. The shorter one is the common FJ 60 knuckle conversion, for which the majority of hubs are offered. The difference is obvious, and that is why there are two different Aisan locking hub assemblies.

Anyone who offers up an Aisan hub for 76-90 either (a)doesn't know there's a difference, (b)is offering up long body hubs not knowing that there will be fitmen issues on a short-stub birf, or (c)is banking on a buyer that doesn't know.

In the case of Warn, it was just good business sense if you were going to offer an aftermarket hub to make one that fit both.

Hey DSB Do you have a spare moment to measure the distance from the outer side of the rotor to the end of the CV Shaft for both knuckle setups
Cheers, Chook:beer:

We measured the distance by eye so this is not a exact measurement. A little under 6" on mine and a little under 5-1/2" on the other. I hope that helps

Looks like I'll be starting on the rear axle Friday.

I like receiving gifts. :bounce:I really wanted to get these from @Rainman but I was a little late on his leave of abstinence. So, I had to settle on this product instead. I can say they are a pretty good match up.

Sorry I've been absent and I promise I'll reveal what's been going one but for now:

I can see in that picture the same problems I had with them. Can you explain the 90 degree bend right at the end of the firewall line below the expansion coil? And why does the chassis line resemble a bridge more than the frame rail?

I'm sorry... I just "haaaad a baaad experience" with them.

Yeah! I saw that yesterday. You get what you get. I was hoping for the best. I mostly needed them for the axles hoping you would get back in. I was hoping time was on my side :)

I am not an expert on installing these, but I have done a few. It was my observation that the 90 degree 'bump' near the expansion coil was to help ensure there was 'wiggle' room for the wiring harness coming thru the firewall there. The bridge in the framerail line is merely a convenience to get a very long line into a more economical shipping box.

We will await your story. You have ALWAYS had entertaining stories!

Nice looking truck and build. Stick with the original color - it's a good one.
