^^^ I was watching a show about the earliest tanks in WW1 the other night. Seems they carried pigeons to relay messages back and forth with command. In fact, the very first tank assault by the Allies was held up because the lead tank had to go back for the pigeon food they forgot to bring!

Yep pigeons were some of the unsung heroes of lots of battles back then. There were soldiers who's entire job was to shoot down anything that looked like one. Of course that led to lots of friendly fire issues. My grandpa had a great book on it that was cowritten by his uncle or something to that effect as he was an early tank commander during WWI. That reminds me I should message my aunt to see if that book still exists in my grandparents effects.
