PS here's a good opportunity for me to answer the question that's been burning me: What does SOA mean?

Spring
Over
Axle

Typically leaf spring pack mounted over the axle instead of under.

I would like to leave Friday afternoon but that depends on if we can drop one of our dogs off at the vet for boarding then. Travel time from Greenville depending on the route you take I believe is 2-3 hours.

yep Rick is spot on............. all leaf sprung landcruisers came from the factory with the leafs mounted underneath the axle. By taking the srpings and relocating them to the top of the axle you gain roughly 5-6" of lift and much more articulation.........

I don't get home from work until after six. Or I could pack and go straight from work after meeting up. Either way works for me, late Fri or early Sat. Are you campers or cabin folk? I forgot to look.
Thanks team for unraveling the SOA mystery. Somehow I sensed it had to do with springs and suspension but I didn't think about leaf springs.

Bill - my wife, dog and I are staying at the cabin (wife's idea - I swear). I would like to leave Friday after work so I could be ready to wheel Saturday morning. I live in TR so that should be on the way to Cullowhee.

Sounds good.
I live near Cherrydale so that's an easy hook-up. I had been toying with switching to camping because my mate is hedging about coming along. But I think most of them are going up Friday morning so that might be complicated.
I'll still probably bring camping gear so if we cross trails with the camping crowd I might switch to them for Sat night/Sunday.
Looking forward to meeting you, and your wife, dog and piggie.
Do you know the way to where we're going?

I haven't decided on a route yet. I believe mapquest sends you along the insterstate. My Pig can do 60-65 comfortably. We can take back roads too. Some scenery might be nice but if its dark we wouldn't see anything anyways.

Bill, that's the plan. Both groups will be meeting up sometime Saturday AM on the trail to play Red-Rover (send Billy right over!) That way the folks who still want to camp Saturday can join the camping posse.

Rick, put me in the camping group already! :P

Getting closer to the run. Looks like I might not have a cruiser even running for the trip but I will be there. I think I'm riding up with Chuck friday. It would be nice to get up there early in the morning though and see the camping group off and go over the trail maps in person.

Rick have ya'll decided when your leaving for the trails?

In the other thread (post #1 gets updates) I proposed we head up from the BP around [EDIT: 12 NOON]. I haven't received a strong reaction from anyone, so I am assuming [EDIT: 12 NOON] works for those who want to camp Friday night. I would like to meet up with your gang at the BP also to make sure the planned routes are clear to everyone.

All the Atlanta folks (Me, Steen, Lab601, Dan) will caravan up in the AM to arrive around lunch time to meet the Carolina folks who can be there early (cruiser4life, jfz80, scj006). John-informationjunky sounded doubtful about making this trip when I saw him at our last GA Cruiser meeting. He's been having to work weekends lately.

Some of the Carolina folks won't be coming up until after work/school on Friday (Bill, Logan). I suggested they meet you at the cabin since it will be dark.

Do you have directions to the cabin? or to the BP? I am coming over from the Raleigh area and see how to get to Cullowhee, but have no idea where these places are.

I am bringing my camping gear, if it's not supposed to drop below 20* I'll camp out (Fri @ cabin, Sat w/ the camping group).

I'm planning on being up there early Friday morning or coming in Thursday night. I have yet to decide. But Anyone who wants to come by before the camping group departure is more than welcome.

Goals for the trip.

1. No one to get lost
2. A clear plan of action
3. A backup plan
4. for the two groups to meet Sat. Perferably for lunch on the bald and for those who want to camp camp and those who want to go to the cabin can do so.
5. those going on the cabin group to be able to take fairly easy trails. Something a stock vehicle could do. Cabin group will not be on the trail all day.
6. For cabin group to explore the trails above the house.
7. Everyone have fun.
8. Be safe.

I am on board. I am not wheeling this trip, just enjoying the scenery and the company. The Cado is on a wheeling diet since it is about to get surgery :)

Joe--

Anyone have a street address for the BP so I can plug it into the GPS?

Rick, Dave, Steen, and I are convoying so help is appreciated :)

I have this for the BP:
N35° 17.820'
W83° 8.714'

I'll have the route programmed into my Garmin as well.

Basically take 441/23 to here:
N35° 20.147'
W83° 15.263'
and take a right onto 116.
Take 116 until you hit 107.
Take a right on 107 until here:
N35° 17.820'
W83° 8.714'

[EDIT: new "quicker" route:
23 to Dillard, GA.
Go right on 107 into Highlands, NC.
Pick up I-64 in Highlands, going east.
Take 64 to Cashiers and go North on 107.
Take 107 for about 20 miles, BP on the left...the Park just past it.]

The meet time is HIGH NOON at the BP or Park next to it.
