Id love to do some exploring but not in the 80 so ill probably plan on joining the afternoon group; let me know if you need someone to lead em up from the bottom.
Jason
ps. barring any lame excuses concrete should be there too

CHANGE:

My lady and I have over extended ourselves this weekend. We will not be making this trip with you all, unfortunately.

Are you sure about that or did you just happen to update this in the wrong thread? I know with your old age you memory isn't what it used to be.:flipoff2:

Jason, glad to hear you will be there......... I can't wait to see your charged 80!!!

...... as for leading the afternoon group I might take you up on that, Alex and I hhave talked about doing the trip in reverse this time, and I like the Idea. Since you are one of the few that knows how to get there via the Sugar Creek gap and to the campsite where we stayed on the second night. That is where I was planning on staying the first night this time around...... so if you are up for it just let me know what time you could meet the later group on friday. I appreciate it

JP - Do we know the bypass route for the ascent on the right immediately after the creek crossing leaving the first night's camp?

I know it is generally go left instead of up the ascent but do we know the length of that route?

andy sorry man, but I am not quite sure what/where you are asking about........ but my brain is fried right now so it might just be me

No worries. Going backwards, the 1st night / camp site on this trip. Leave camp, cross the creek and there will be an immediate and steep ascent on the right that we all came down at the end of that very long day.

Ring a bell?

yep, you lost me early when you said first night camp........ I thought you were talking about past trips and camping on the bald :D........

and as for your question I do not know the exact length of that by pass but it is high lighted on the rovers map and doesn't appear to be very long..........

that general area of the 4-way stop there is where I intend to do some exploring from my understanding according to the rover guys if at the 4-way last time instead of going straight down the steep deccent if we had turn left and gone up the mountain the trail be comes much more challenging then any of the others we have done and eventually makes it way up to wet camp gap where there is another open bald and a large mud bog........

Good deal.

Awesome, I remember wondering where that spur went.

That's what makes that place so great - there are SO many trails to explore!!! :bounce:

Happy Birthday to you too!!!!

yes there are........... so are you going to be on the exploration then

Not likely but we'll see. It's not from a lack of desire. Just don't know if I can play hookey that day.

I am not even 100% sure I can make the second group at 4. If that's the case, I can always find camp by myself. It's a navigating issue more than a wheeling alone issue since there is only about 250 yards of trail until camp and since I've been there once (backwards, in the dark :D) it shouldn't be too hard to find. That a pretty small camp site for more than 5-6 trucks, no?

you might be right on the campsite, but I think we can make it work...... also a short ways back down the trail, where the steep deccent came out is a large open field that was an old homestead....... if the group is to large we can use that.

Also there is a shorter quicker way in Andy it is labeled shock snapper on the rovers guys trail map........

You know what, you're right on both accounts!!

I remember the field and I remember you telling me about the shorter way in. Ugghhh. Maybe your "old man" comments are more true than I realize... :D

Speaking of that field, if the summer growth is still too high, you should be more than capable to lead the Cruiser bushwacking party!! ;)

haha....... last time it was you saving me from taking a horrid wrong turn out on the trail and leading us deep into no mans land....... I was having a mild Ahab moment :D

....... I am getting pumped up for this trip though, I love exploring new trails it is hard to beat the rush of not knowing whats next , hope you can find away to make the early trip
