Its always great to see another young guy into cruisers!
Way to go man. By the time you and I are older, we'll be way ahead of the curve!

p.s. Im 18. How old are you?

18 and just graduated high school.

You need a timing light to set the timing instead of guessing at the setting.

I have a timing light and I painted the TDC mark on the flywheel, it's just a pain to get in there. I'm know my timing is advanced, it's pinging a bit and idling a little high with the Gold Screw all the way in, I think only off by a few degrees. So my question again is, which way should I move the dizzy? Counter clockwise or clockwise?

so was it the tps or the injectors?

Intake manifold is off, out to lunch now but making progress. Going to boroscope the intake to see if all the injectors are shooting fuel.

To those with a Desmogged 62, is there any reason I can't cap off the vacuum lines on top of the throttle body? They are labeled as EGR which is disabled on my rig. I think those lines are capped at the other side anyways...
IIRC, one of those is where the evap enters the intake from, but I can't remember and the rig is outside where it is dark....I want to say they should be hooked up...the desmogging magic happens later down stream...

If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball... just put a timing light on it, you're capable of a motor swap, you can put a timing light on. Do not mess around with engine timing. High chance to fawk something up.

What are these "Oside Tiger" injectors? If that isn't a typo I don't know why you would try to use those. Toyota Parts > ________ (insert aftermarket here). Especially for motor related parts.

Also about the vacuum connections on the TB you need to cap them if they are not being used.

Hmm. Just googled the injectors you mentioned... why didn't they work? New or rebuilt you shouldn't have had problems. Warranty/ Get your money back?

A bunch are capped off later in the vacuum junction, I wasn't sure If those two shared the capped off lines with anything else. I ended up running the lines how I had them before (not enough vacuum caps in stock).

Going to put my big boy pants on and do it.

The injectors are actually Bosch, a reputable company. They are out of a Mitsubishi or a Subaru or something and Oside Tiger (a small rebuilding company) made the adapters for the wire harness. All injectors were getting power, but 2 and 5 weren't atomizing (spraying) the fuel cussing those two cylinders to mis pretty bad. Just had two bad injectors which is HIGHLY unusual. Company has a warranty and stated all injectors they sell are flow tested so I'll be giving them a call. I still have an extra set of OEM injectors that I'll send to RC and swap out if I get bored.

The question wasn't if I should cap them off, but rather if I needed to use them :)

Hopefully all this is making you exited for EFI on your truck :)

Still need to:

Burp coolant
Retard timing
Check spark plugs
After a few dozen miles I'll pull the valve cover and redo them and torus head bolts. I set them 0.05" under and it's loud!

I'll take a video later!

I suspected it was going to be the injectors, but didn't want to make you have to pull off the entire EFI setup on a hunch.

Well technically I did pull the injection system on a hunch ;)

Sounds risky
NOT REALLY, UNLESS YOU GUN IT TOO HOT.... at idle, you'll hear the idle speed go up when advancing and down when retarding. the TPS adjustment ca be a ginormous factor for how the engine meters fuel...prolly those foreign injectors tho.,..

Backed it off a notch and checked with a timing light. Filled up with 93 and put 20 miles on it. Runs good, just hard to ignore the valve noise. Next weekend I'll pull the rockets and redo them, as well as check head bolts.

Now that engine project is DONE, time to move to fun stuff... Off roading!!! Got a July 4th weekend wheeling trip planned. Just ordered a Lockright from Georg, and an Aussie from Stump, and hopefully I'll get those in with the 80 rear end soon.

I also traded my old motor for these wheels from the Mellowest man around, Mel Lowe. 15x8, nothing special but as soon as I sell my old (new) 31" Falkens I'll find some 35" mud tires to put on them. Things! Excitement!!

Also shameless plug: five 31" Falken Rocky Mountains on stock wheels for sale, pretty much brand new.

Redid my valve lash, runs PERFECT now :)

Also set up a Lockright in my spare diff. This is going in the front. Got an Aussie coming in the mail in a few days, that will go in the 80 series rear full-floater and under the car. Hopefully in the next two weeks.

Make sure that when you go around corners w/ the aussie in the rear that you don't hammer the gas. When I had on in the rear it was like riding a bucking bronco.
