Many of you know that Masonic Village goes back to the very early 1900s, so by the Spanish flu of 1918 there were about 325 residents. (We live in one of the early buildings, dating to 1915.) For the Spanish flu the place was pretty much locked down, with security at each entrance restricting who had access. You could leave if you wanted to but on your return you had to self-quarantine for 14 days. They made it through the flu epidemic without losing anyone.

Today, the same conditions prevail, and to date, there are no reported cases on campus, including from the Health Center, which is where residents go for multiple levels of care and who are relatively more vulnerable than the "average" resident.

All of this translates to so far... so good.

Andy, I'm really glad your wife's condition is improving. Keep on doing whatever you're doing.

Just read the entire thread, Andy- happy to hear your wife is doing better thoughts and prayers sent. Take care and be well.

Taking advantage of limited traffic, there is a new, sub 27hr CannonBaller.

Starting about 4 weeks ago, there were some strong rumors this was going to happen! On the last attempt, I think the boys were stopped by the popo for almost 2 hrs and still broke the record! The stakes are getting higher and higher!

I’m a little surprised they chose the A8... that car has had its share of reliability issues.

Who’s with me?!!!!!!!!!!

I’m in. I’ve done One Lap of America twice now. If you are unfamiliar it’s what Brock Yates turned the cannonball run into. A legal way to do it. Google It up, you are sure to see some neat stuff.

@caz Not a hijack at all. So far you are the only person I know with first hand experience, so it’s nice to get an actual account of what to expect with it, as opposed to rumors and tv.

That's awesome! What'd you run it with? I used to love reading those articles in C&D when I was in high school. My favorite was a BMW 318ti that had an M3 drive train swapped in. Since they grouped by original msrp it was with $30k and below vehicles and mopped up in class. I feel like I remember it coming in top 3 overall that year too. Kind of the AC Cobra routine, small, light weight chassis, big HP.

I hear ya... I love reading all of the stories and history! Can you imagine how that 318 hauled the mail????

I have a very well maintained E60 M5... that car was made for this... it’s smooth as glass and settles in nicely at 150 but will run with ease up over 200 (in Mexico of course)

Very cool, Blair!!! I did not know about this... definitely a bucket list trip now! I’ve driven across the US several times now (I80 and I70), different routes each time! Our United States has so much to offer and sights to see!!!!

Zook family update:

Day #7 and Liz is doing great, in fact yesterday she went the full day without a fever! Most of her symptoms are gone, she is still tired and has some digestive issues. She never had much of an issue with shortness of breath other than one time when showering and the bathroom was steamed up. She still coughs occasionally, but not much.

We have been talking about what comes next for her. The general consensus is you can come out of quarantine after 72 hours without a fever, but how does one really know? I want her to call the Dr. to confirm. I think an extra day or two would make me feel a little better.

I am not sure what to do about our "contaminated" bedroom and bathroom. I'm half inclined to take the mattress out back and burn it!! We are about due for a new one anyhow...

Overall, her case did not seem much different than the flu - thankfully a very mild case. I can't help but wonder if some people (like Chris Cuomo in the video above) are exaggerating a little to sensationalize. That said, there have certainly been a lot of people who have died or are in the hospital!

The kids, my sister-in-law and I are still doing great. 7 days and no one has any signs!

Other thread relevant info:

I am starting to look like a sexier version of the Unibomber - I have not trimmed my beard or buzzed my hair for like 4 or 5 weeks now. I am donning mostly flannel, and I shower when I feel like it. Who do I have to impress? I am not going anywhere, and my wife hasn't seen me in person for days!

I cringe every time I have to get out a new roll of TP or paper towel. We still have enough, but at some point in the next month this will not be the case. Maybe I'll sneak in to my brother-in-law's garage late at night and hit up his TP stash. Scratch that, he has a gun and is still all wigged out....

The kids are starting "real" school this week. It looks like my 12 and 10 year olds are going to be on Zoom for 3 or 4 hours a day starting tomorrow. I have no idea how I am going to work from home and keep after them too. I really hope my wife can help soon!

Working from home is going awesome - I think my productivity is actually UP without the frequent interruptions! My company had layoffs last week, thankfully I was not among those who were furloughed. I keep a finger on the incoming sales dollars - sales are picking up the past few days but are still only about half of normal.

Glad to see all of you are doing ok. Glad to see Vince's update! I told him the other day that I can't wait until the day things are back to normal enough that we can "do breakfast"!

Take care,
Andy

What a wonderful update, Andy! Many of us have been praying for your fam.

I also had a client who got sick (works where your wife worked and had a similar experience). She’s fully recovered and back to work. She compared her symptoms to a bad cold. I hope you guys can put this behind you!

Well, Diane came down with something over the weekend - coughing, tight chest, headache, and vomiting. Very likely COVID, but impossible to say without testing. This started on Friday and yesterday and today she has mostly been sleeping. She seems to be doing a bit better this afternoon.

I haven't shown any symptoms, but I'm definitely exposed to whatever she may have. We'll hope for mild symptoms for both of us.

The numbers confirm what you're saying, Andy - about 95% are having mild symptoms. It's that other 5% that is the concern. For perspective, with a population of 12.8 million in PA, that would be 640,000 severe cases if everyone in the state got it. Limiting the spread is definitely worth it.

I also had a client who got sick (works where your wife worked and had a similar experience).

Interesting. I wonder just how many staff members did get sick over there!

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that. I'd still try to isolate myself if I were you. I thought for sure I was exposed too, but still hanging on!

Talked to the doctor. She said to monitor temperatures and pay attention to any signs of breathing difficulty, but did not recommend going to get tested - just said to assume that we both had it.

Unfortunately, small house with one bath so isolating is difficult. For all I know, I could be asymptomatic and brought it home from the shop. They still have the public coming in as an essential service.
