School's out for summer!

Who the heck would send their kid back to school with 1800 other kids anyway? Our Governour (Murphy) hopefully lets us know quick. It would be silly not to cancel the entire year for in person learning.

I felt this is important to share. There is a standard for virus transmission and how one contagious person can infect many. This is the CDC and WHO rate of reproduction measurement. The WHO says the R-0 (naught) for COVID is 2-4. So one person can potentially infect at least 2 persons up to 4, and so on. This is a quick explanation from the movie Contagion how the R-0 works. This is why Dr. Fauchi wants a nationwide stay at home order and why we should not gather in groups.

Contagion! She found a cure in a few weeks and only had to test it on herself before the whole pandemic was fixed!

Gotta love Hollywood creative writers.

I think this may have been working its way around the world for a good deal longer than anyone has been told, misdiagnosed and misunderstood.

We had 2guys in our shop really sick this winter. Both were told it's a virus and needs to work its way through but nothing pinpointed. Symptoms are a exact fit, all the guys were under 35 but weren't normal again for a few weeks after. I've heard of others saying the same things as well. I wouldn't be surprised if it's been around awhile.

I'd like to think that too, and I did for a while, but I am now convinced this is not the case.

What is going around at the nursing home where my wife works is deadly. It has not been here before. Nothing like this has been there before....

I talked to a former coworker and another 47 year old former coworker of mine has it, he has been on oxygen for a week.

We had flu in our house in early February. I convinced myself a few weeks back that this was it. My wife had a bad cough, trouble breathing, and bronchitis from it, but I am certain now that it was not "the COV".....

I haven't updated my wife's story for a few days.

Every time she works, I think I feel a piece of what a mother feels like when sending a son to war.

I called a friend from church yesterday who is a nursing home administrator - just because I thought he may have some advice or some contacts who can help.

He told me that this is by far the worst home in the area. They have a lot of staff and even administration sick.

I broke down on the phone trying to describe the situation to him....

She doesn't eat, doesn't drink anything for her entire shift. She no longer texts me because she does not want to touch her phone.

She never knows what she is walking into - the home uses a lot of agency nurses, and they often just don't show up.

There are so many sick and so much happening that she hardly has time to see each patient twice in a shift

She worked tonight, this afternoon before she left for work I noticed she was visibly trembling. She is that scared. This is a strong woman who has been an ICU nurse for 15 years. She is rattled to the core

She just got home and is showering - our nightly routine as described by Vince earlier. As she was walking into the bathroom I asked her if her night was better or worse.

She simply said, "three deaths tonight".

Edit: Just talked to her more. 4 deaths total today at the home. As of today's numbers, Lancaster County only has 5 total deaths.

I know the expression has become trite, but sending healing thoughts and prayers your way, Andy.

I just shake my head at the people posting that this is all a hoax and just like typical flu. I wonder if their minds will actually change as it affects them and those around them.

And those persons saying this are tucked away at home at their phone or computer getting DoorDash shop at home deliveries etc. I bet.

That's scary stuff Andy, I hope you all stay safe.

Update:

My wife (Liz) started to show some symptoms last night. She is not sure if she is imagining things or not, but she has a cough as-of this morning. She just left to go get a test. I'll update as I know more.
That's a scary as heck feeling!
I have been nursing a little sniffle for about a week myself. I have had zero fever, but some significant aches and pains. Again very frightening! Good luck Andy!

I'm kind of surprised they don't test all health care workers on a regular basis. Certainly ones that are in contact with confirmed patients. I thought we were past the issue of limited test kits.

Are you guys going to change up the at-home protocol until you get the results back?

Taking a break from moving the kids to the basement, she is quarrantined on the second floor.

I'm the only one going anywhere near her and pretty much just delivering stuff to her - food, water, medicine....

We are just assuming she has it and taking all the precautions we can.

She has developed a nasty cough is very tired, and has a slight headache. The doctor prescribed an inhaler and just told her to monitor symptoms and go to the ER if she starts getting short of breath.

It sounds like you guys have a solid plan in place. It might be worth a call to the kids' pediatrician just to give them a heads up. We're praying for you and your family. Stay strong Andy.

Stay strong, Andy. We're all here for you.
