So after much research on here, Arb and Slee's spring chart at a loss as to which springs to go with. I could easily probably get away with 864's on weight rating, but fear the ride stiffness. I'm only desiring 1 to 1.5" of lift with slightly improved load capacity. Arb's application guide would suggest the 2865's. However I'm a big fan of progressive springs especially given additions to the vehicle (heavy winch and cradle up front, "light" sliders I made, and tools/recovery gear out back). So the 2866's have a free standing height of 465mm vs 460 of 2865's. But have a progressive spring rate of 240/320lbs/in vs 220lbs/in.
Now I've seen some vendors say the 2866 is up to 2.5"s of rear lift- not my desired end state. I know that that is some what subjective to how worn out your old springs are.... Vehicle is used for commuting, camping and pulling my boat places most of the time. Any thoughts, experience and opinions are welcome.

Here is my very unscientific opinion to this...

I started with 865's installed by the PO on my rig. As soon as I added ~200lbs of drawers and gear, it sagged to the point of being level, or perhaps a bit of negative rake.

I then bumped up to 866's, which was fine until you added a RTT, and fully geared up for a trip with dog (~350lbs).

I added 15mm spacers to level the truck, which improved ride quality when empty, but was still "level" when loaded. The issue at this point however is that the ride was a little rougher when loaded, and had poor handling on hill climbs, etc.

When I added the BIOR bumper and swing out, I was level 24/7, and ride quality suffered. At this point, you're at the higher end of spring rate anyways, which compounds with the loss of rake, and results in about the same ride (again, unscientific opinion) as going with a higher rate like the 864.

I've since bumped up to 864's with Icon VS 2.0 rears. Have not wheeled with this set-up, but am confident it will be much improved.

If you will be loading up in excess of 350lbs, and/or carrying 300lbs and wheeling, you'll want to go 866 + 30mm, or 864's.

Hi Slee is installing the OME 1.5" medium kit on my lx470 in two weeks, I may load up the rear with gear (don't think it will go over 200 lbs), have no plans for a replacement front or rear bumper. I just don't wheel that much or that hard anymore, three or four hunting trips a year, nothing technical. Would you still recommend the 866 springs (the rest of the kit is the same) for their progressiveness and "future insurance" in case I do change my mind and add a bumper/spare tire carrier etc

Look at this http://tlcfaq.com/main/2012/09/common-ome-rear-spring-replacement-specs/

With your daily load out what are the ride heights you have (center of wheel to fender lip)?

If you are towing some I'd consider an airbag assist for that function and a spring that matches the daily load.

People that tell you x spring will give you y lift are being nonsensical - You have to match the weight and then length to get a lift value. The person advising would need to know your EXACT setup.

I'd look toward an 2863 with associated front torsion bars + Airbag for towing (depending on load)

FWIW I was running 863 springs a with bumpers, sliders, full drawers in back, & skids. Fully loaded I thought it handled the weight very well...

Unloaded running around town was a little firmer but manageable, of course everyone has a different opinion on ride. I will say the 863s love a load on them.

Thanks for all the feedback and sharing your experiences with different setups everyone!

866's are a great compromise. if your ambitions change and rear starts to sag, you can easily top them with 15 or 30mm spacers. Just keep in mind that as you add weight, 866's become stiffer since you will be nearing the upper end of progression on their spring rate. Other shocks take weight better and feel more "natural" than rigid.

@bwell Did you end up with 2866? How do you like it for commuting? Most of the time my LC is empty, but I like to have larger load capacity for the occasional towing. Appreciate any feedbacks!

My $.02... I've had 866s for going on 7 years with Firestone AirLifts. Best all around for me with rear bumper/swingout/drawers/fridge etc.
I run the bags at only about 7 psi avg and 15 psi fully loaded. Able to keep it level and compliant across loads (no towing) but you will lose some rear articulation with the bags inflated.

I run 866's and 34's. No real weight in the back other than the bumper setup. I keep my 3rd row in

With my RZR and trailer it will squat a bit, but nowhere near as much as it did with the 860's I took off.

My buddy has the exact same setup as me with 860's. To keep it level he is 1.25"-1.75" taller than me overall. (measuring from the inside of the fenders to the ground.

Most people lift their trucks more than I do. I like it as low as possible. The 295 Nitto's don't rub at all.

I dont get the opportunity to run a lot of trails and use the awesome gear yall have but I do like a good looking level LC with some 33 tires.... If I am going with 33 tires and keeping the vehicle stock for now should I throw some 860, 865 or 866 on to give it a level stance and not ruin the ride quality?

That’s a blast from the past. I ended up ditching the 866’s for Slee Heavy and the stance is the same with much better weight capability when I load it down.

So your lift is considered the 1.5? are you still running the 295's I see you have some new rubbers on there now. If your still running 295 did you re-gear? I'm picking up an 02 this weekend and I have been contemplating just about every type of combination and option but every time I see your rig I pause and think that's what I want! Great looking truck!

Thank you. No I have 305/65s now. No way in the world I would spend the money to regear. You can kit out your whole truck for the price.
Was that the reason for going to the 305, those are about 1/2 inch smaller correct? Or just personal preference

A little late but I’ll thro in my .02.

I’m using 865. I just installed Airlift 1000 bags. This weekend we took a 4 day trip and the ride was perfect. The truck stayed level the entire trip and was very comfy and responsive. There was minimal rear end sag.

It was so great I didn’t have to release air when we arrived and unhooked the camper. It did great on trails, uphill climbs and off camber.

This is with 60lbs total of 2 small kids, 62 lb dog, mini fridge. Clothes and whatever else was back there.

@wngrog . Just to confirm the last pic you posted in this pic, is that a 1.5inch lift?

Love the way it looks. I am planning to order suspension soon so want to make the correct choice going in for the first time.

Late to seeing your response here but I also run the 865s and torsion bars cranked max and this is how my LC looks with a $1,400 trailer attached. I plan to add air bags but I am adding a 4x4 labs rear bumper so not sure yet about ditching the 865s for a spring to keep me more level but for sure I’m adding the airbags for towing.

I’m not exactly sure what my lift would be considered in inches. It’s fairly low and level which I like.

For an unloaded truck to improve Ride and looks for 285s/295/305 you can

1) add some shocks (Ironman Pro are my favorite)
2) add 866 OME springs
3) adjust front torsion bar for stance you like. I suggest keeping about 1” of rake so your headlights don’t blind and it does not squat when loaded

Keep in mind. Your stock suspension is likely sagged 1-2” over time so you could get 4” of lift if it’s real worn.

The lift numbers you see are based on a new stock truck.
