Pat, that truck looks GREAT! I have been seeing more and more trucks with the striping, and whereas I never really gave them much consideration when the trucks were new, I have a newfound appreciation for them.....so retro, they're COOL!

Also, is that Line-X or some similar material sprayed on the underside of your truck? It looks so clean and durable! Did you pull the body off the frame to do that?

Lastly, be sure to post photos of the steering wheel setup you mentioned. I'm not familiar with it but would like to see it.

Thanks,
David
Thanks man,

The bottom is painted with PPG dp90 then I sprayed it with Raptor Liner. It seems really tough. They make it tintable if you would rather match the truck color. FJ Company uses it so I figured it had to be pretty good.

I did do a frame off on the truck. Powder coating on the frame, axles, and small stuff. Also powder on the fenders and doors in white then I painted the exterior parts.

Thanks for the response. I guess I could have been smart enough to realize this is all part of a BUILD THREAD........! At 53 pages now, I gotta figure every question I have is included in here somewhere.........

Sorry for not noticing and being an idiot :bang: :hillbilly:

Yeah, it is the steering wheel contacts on the horn, they work intermittently...barely.
You have to sneak up on em. I was planning to do the .22 LR spent brass mod but
never got around to it.

Chunk's looking amazing, Pat. :)

I also (while not having to endure the installation process) think the OEM cable lockers
account for some serious brownie points. SO cool to have it basically look factory new.

My son got me two Foo Fighters posters for Christmas. I love Dave Grohl an his positive attitude. There's a "Them Crooked Vultures" - Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, John Paul Jones- poster on the other wall. My Queens of the Stone Age poster is sitting waiting to go up. Pretty much anything featuring the music of Dave or Josh Homme is just plain awesome.

A friend saw this dude the other day....

I know this was written 4 years ago... at least that's where I am in the story tonight, but I'm stoked to have scrolled down on that first page to see it's 53 pages! I'm at page 4 now but it's already a kick ass road trip/Cruiser acquisition with beer and dogs. I'm in!! Great pics!
Thanks! I’ve been very delinquent about updating the thread. There is still much to do. This year is Solid Axle Summit 6 so I gotta take my 60, right? Plans over the winter are for a regear (3.70 now and going to 4.10 for more powa). Finish up engine compartment stuff, finish up the interior. I will do photos and such as it goes along.

I've got a few parts to scavenge then it will go up in the part out section.

I got the mirrors off too. They will go on Chunk. Also needed the air cleaner, fan shroud, windlace door seals, hand throttle, front seat (at least temporarily), rear seats and headrests. Haven't decided on the sweet rear wing though. If I can put it on Chunk real quick with sheetmetal screws I think I'll go for it :)

This thing looks like something the A-Team would have built!

He is what CD said - true wingman. He sulked quite a bit last year at SAS3 because he had to give up the front seat to Lizzy. As long as he's in front on any trip he's happy, unless he wants me to get back in the Cruiser, like at the Swine Soiree last year.

Possibly one of the best Cruiser/hound pictures I've ever seen.

Locker cable setup under the truck. This took a really long time to do. For what I have into it time and money wise, a new set of Harrops would have made more sense.

A huge thank you to @Samppahj for the awesome detail pictures from his HJ60 build "snow white ".

Funny, Chunk and @Samppahj Snow White are the two browsers I have open right now drooling over your builds. Both are absolutely amazing transformations and you both should be incredibly proud of your (nearly) finished products. It makes me so excited to work on my own rig when I see the work you two have done. However, I do have one bit of criticism for the two of you. Your rigs are both a little too perfect. you need to use far more duct tape and zip ties.... then I wouldn't feel so bad when I go look at my truck. HA! Just kidding, keep up the museum quality work!! It's inspirational.

Thank you for your kind words and critics ;) I am glad to be able to inspire others. And trust me, here in Finland there are ebough of these duct tape/self tappers/ziptie/booger weld Cruisers. My goal was to save one from those along one without a turbo. There are many of HJ60 with 12H-T swapped in and rear seats removed.

@Samppahj has inspired me on Chunk. He has gone beyond what I have done for sure. Excellent restoration!

I have not looked at your topic before. Don´t know why. But now I went through it and I must say you have done a great job also. Good looking truck and good color!

Sometimes I hit a wall when it comes to working on my rigs, these build threads are always inspirational and help me get motivated again. Both of your builds have been ones I go back to in order to get pumped up to do big jobs. I can't wait to see you guys take them on amazing trips.

It has been a long time since posting, so trying to get back at it. Chunk has been on a few trips and has been great. I do think an engine refresh is on the horizon. At least to open up the 12h-t and make sure it is all happy inside. We took him to SAS 6 and he did great, other than having to be the smoky tail gunner everywhere we went. I was lucky to get an awesome shot from photographer Chris Dickinson. He got a mud bath for it but was totally committed!

My wife, Jessica framed the picture to go on the wall today. That's what reminded me to get after the thread and get it updated.
(the picture of Jess is from when we were hauling Chunk out to SAS 8 from Michigan)

I'm SO happy that Chunk is happy, and that you guys are happy!! Land Cruisers just refuse to die!
The fact that you and I met over this truck, and now being friends, is one of the best parts of Chunk! Thanks for naming him too.
