got any thoughts on what rope you are going to run? i think i've zero'd in on viking with the safety thimble for mine... it's just a tad lower on my list, but i'll get to it.

I need to get a longer rope for the buggy and I'm looking at customsplice.com. Prices are good and I hear his service is excellent.

Video was great. I really got a good feel for the day.

Ya know, those ropes are way cool. But, considering how often I pull my cable I just can't justify replacing it just to be cool.

Good point, but it's not just cool.

Safer
Lighter
Don't need gloves
Easy to spool
...roller fairleads do look un-cool though.

You need to wheel harder and then your winch will get used more:grinpimp:

Nope, Pappy wheels plenty hard.

His winch doesn't get used because it is usually someone else pulling cable to get his junk right side up or back on the trail.

I hear ya - I'm still on the original cable that came with the winch back in '99. I drag it through rocks, crud, with all kinds of wrong angles, dragging it on the ground and she still begs for more! :D

Such excitement; man, I miss everything living down here in the Nanny State:crybaby:

David sent me the You Tube link and the whole trip looks like it was great fun. I hope Kit gets righ back on the horse once his 200 is fixed/replaced and leads the next Christmas Tree Run (and I hope I'm right behind him).

Cheers,

Josh

MetLife has said they will pay for fixing my 200. I am really relieved to hear that they are not going to total it. Cruiser Dan has recommended a body shop and I'll check that out tomorrow.

See Blake.

IIRC, they have a white 200 series there now (or just did recently).

Correct. They recently did one.

That is awesome . I didn't think it was totalled. most of the heavy damage is all replacable panels except for the roof and roof wasn't that bad it seemed. its a nice truck, looking forward to seeing it on the trails again!

WOW!

Thanks so much for sharing all that guys. Incredible adventure. Made me feel like I was right there even though I'm 12,000 miles away down here.

Bummer of a thing Kit and I truly feel for you man, but I guess you may have dodge a bullet - and it seems like it will turn out ok re the insurance.

Couple of questions Kit if its ok to ask:

1. Did you have the airbag system disengaged and or did any bags deploy with the side impact or roll? (couldn't see any interior shots.) I ask because there's been a bit of a debate down here on Lcool about possible insurance claim denial on trucks with slee sliders fitted - due to their direct connection to the frame. I'm picking your damage might have been worse without them? I certainly would not be without mine.

2. Did your truck's back end slip out and over, or was it just a case off getting too close to the edge and rest was head-first history? I slipped off a bank myself a few months back but miraculously she slid down the hill without flipping or hitting anything significant. I was heading up a slippery trail with cross fall and the back end slipped out and the 200's weight did the rest. I reckon it may not have happened if I'd had the gumption to deflate my tires significantly beforehand.

Good luck man. Looking forward to seeing the rebuilt beauty.

Kit can answer your other questions but I know that no bags deployed.

No airbags deployed. I had the RSCA set to off. This is supposed to disable the roll sensors for the side curtain airbag and is recommended in the owners manual for rough trails. Side impacts will still trigger the airbags. I've gotten into the habit of using it whenever I'm four wheeling. The darn thing is that you have to turn it off again each time you start the engine. I'm glad I remembered it this time.

The ice under the snow sent me to the edge of the road and then I couldn't get back to the center. I was almost completely stopped when the roll started. It was a pure sideways roll. The tailgate and the front grill were undamaged.

The truck is now at Maurers body shop. Initial estimate of repair time is 8 weeks. I'm anxious to see if they find more damage when they tear it apart.

Deb's 100 has the same deal - a switch to disable the side bags. I just don't understand this. With all the automation in these rigs you'd think that the bags would disable automatically whenever low range was selected.

I can see a reason to not turn it off automatically. For example, driving on the highway in extreme weather. You may want to put it in 4 low, but still want those air bags in case of an accident with another vehicle.

You actually would want the curtain air bags to deploy in a rollover, just not in an off-camber situation like we may experience when wheeling.

So switch OFF to prevent inadvertent deployment due to high side angles while four wheeling but ON when the off camber suddenly becomes a roll.

I'll try to remember that when the time comes.

Bump.

This thread had me thinking the past few days.

I had an opportunity to mention it today.

Serendipitous. And I hear a certain @Beowulf retired recently.

Man, what a trip this trip was. Man.

 HDC rocked it on this run.

 amigos.
