Well now...that's cool they made good on that console.

yes, they made good but I will still only order somethings from them. I do have there fj40 rear truck mat and I like it. I have there radiator hoses and they ain't bad.

:beer:bodean, i have a ccot on mine and don't think is bad. cheaper than tuffy for sure and all i need it for is to hide the open container when i get pulled over! really i live in a rural area (went to katemcy this weekend) and am not worried too much about theft. just needed cheap storage. i am trying to emulate yours. when i saw yours at roundup this spring i knew that is what i wanted mine to become. maybe some day.:):grinpimp::beer::beer:

Should we start a CCOT locking console support group?

I also bought this console :o and have been able to pull it open when "locked." I had to tweak the u-shaped bracked on the lid so that it matched up to the lock better. I was very surprised and disappointed with how easy this thing would be to break into or remove completely with a couple wrenches. Here's to hoping that just the sight of a locking console will keep the the honest people honest (because is sure isn't going to keep out the crooks).

I'm not a veteran mudder, but on this site, I have read far more complaints about CCOT than praise. It'd be interesting to have a CCOT thread and keep score.

I have ordered from them a few times and don't have any complaints. But then again I always knew what I was getting when I ordered from them. I never ordered anything I couldn't have researched here on mud or read about in the trails.

I tried doing the same thing you said. Tweaking the bracket on the lid I tried tweaking the locking side. Everytime the locking side would bend enough to let the lid side by.

I wish I'd seen this before. Just came on and did a search for console. My 10 year old son pulled on the lid and the lock (s-shaped thing) snapped right off the lock. I ignored it this summer, since I was working on other parts of the rig, but now I'm driving it again and I'd sure like to put stuff in it to lock.

When I called CCOT in June (when it broke) they suggested I visit a locksmith.

Perhaps I'll call them again.

Yup. Count me in. Got mine before my 'muducation'. Had it for two and a half years with the occasional problem.

Originally thought it would be a better deal because it was made specifically for the '40 whereas the Tuffy was an adaptation and wasn't as slick as the CCOT one.

Mine only is able to be pulled open when the lock nut that holds the keylock in gets loose. Problem is, I can't get my hamfingers down there to tighten it up and I haven't bent a wrench to be able to tighten it without taking the whole thing off. It's becoming annoying, then when I saw this post I .... knew I wasn't alone.

Not quite ready to admit it, but I might have fallen for the boobs too.

Dan.

I am sorry to hear of another unsatisfied customer of CC of Taiwan. I need to remind myself of this anytime I consider buying something from them again. I have said it before and I will say it again..........

Everything I have ever bought from them has turned out to be a compromise. Based on my experience with the junk they sell, I'd really like to see one of their complete trucks up close. All this from the self-proclaimed "Nation's Foremost Restorer of Toyota Land Cruisers"

Uh Oh! Made in Taiwan? Better check for Lead Paint on the Console.

Bolt in?

Just got the CCOT console as a Christmas gift, but it don't fit.
They say it bolts right in, but it's too wide. It's 8" and won't clear the seat bolts on my stock '74 FJ40.
Time to send it back!!! If only the wife had read this thread before ordering.
On another note..she also got me the safari mirrors. Now those worked out great!

hasp

A padlock hasp should be able to fix the prob if you have an older one but good heads up on the product is appreciated!

boobs

"But the picture of the boobs next to the console made it look strong.., stupid boobs."

TOO FUNNY:lol:!
Sheesh imagine buying something simply cause of a boob pic

Say where do you get those boob stickers do they come with the console?

Tuffy is much better. It's skinner also. I still drilled holes in my tuffy to allow me to mount it farther back so my stick for the tranny would clear without bending it.

If you can send it back that would be my vote.

I am having the same problem. CCOT gives instructions on replacing the acorn nuts with (provided) flange nuts, then grinding down the remaining stubs... I've done all that, and I can still only get about 7 5/8" clearance, and you need 8" (and really, who doesn't?).

It does not fit, and isn't going to - ever. Even if it cleared the seat hardware, it would still compress the bottom seat cushions - it's too wide. CCOT misrepresented this console - it's a bad application.

Unfortunately, I took their word for it that the console would fit. I drilled some holes in it to accommodate some special equipment. I'm very dissapointed. I've got a note out to them now, and I'll follow-up if they come through for me. In the mean time - buyer beware.

I've got the CCOT console and it is sh*t! Locked, unlocked, it doesn't matter the lid still opens with ease. The width of the console will not allow proper access to the seat belt buckles either. I have had a few issues with their products and like mentioned earlier, they are the walmart of cruiser parts. Beware...Go with the Tuffy!

I hate the CCOT console. It will not stay locked. I found that the rear hinge gets bent and therefore the lock and clasp do not line up. If you take a hammer to the rear of the lid it will line up and lock. A tuffy is in my future after paint, PS, AC, rollcage, stock wheels, and new tires.

Well, I am glad I read this post first. Well before a purchase I mean. I think I am going to roll with the Tuffy Deluxe.

Squeezed an 8" Tuffy console between the front seats in my 74. The lock is super secure... It can't be beat, I've seen safes that'd be easier to open.
