I like the CCOT console a lot but it is 8" wide. That is a tight fit. The Tuffy is 6.5" wide and seems to fit just right with a little bit of room left over. I measured the space between my seats and I just don't know how the CCOT console would fit without the seats being squished up next to it. Anyone have either of these brands? Especially the CCOT.

Heard the lock on the CCOT is way worse. BTW my friend rolled his 40 at Pismo this year and the only injury he got was when his CCOT console popped open and split his ear in half. Although I was a little apprehensive about the Tuffy because of the price, I love mine. It's great to be able to go surfing for a couple hours and not have to worry about anything being stolen out of the truck.

Thanks man. I do believe I will be going with Tuffy.

Both of the consoles mentioned fit tight. I have a Tuffy in my 77 and a CCOT in my 78. Both still have stock buckets.

The CCOT box was bought new and came with all bkts. Close to $250.00. The radio/cb mounts inside the box requireing opening the lid every time one wants access to it. I took out the spot welds (4) holding the internal radio petition and rewelded it to the bottom of the console to inclose where the radio-wire/ antenna access area is and to increase the capacity about 25% more. My cb and radio are mounted to the roll cage in an overhead console I fabbed up after seeing what was being offered to the heep owners.

The Tuffy I stole on E-BAY, used, out of a heep, and came with no mounting hdw. After I sheared and bent up the mounting peices needed, and painting, I had less than $100.00 in it.

The Tuffy is much better built. The steel is about .030 thicker. The lock design and hinge system are both a hell of a lot stronger. The access to the radio mounting area is a smarter design, useing a different compartment to house the electronics seperatly and much more secure from theives.
Hindsight is 20-20. For the small difference in price new, Buy the Tuffy!

That's particle board lovingly covered with bondo, sanded smooth and spray painted. Haven't gotten around to the cushion or latch yet.

That looks good. I've been using search to try to come up with a good solution for a console to go over my center rear heater and I think something like that may do the trick. I already got matching paint for $22/gallon from ace this last summer. Thanks!

My 78 sports the 8" Tuffy with stereo compartment. Factory seats. It is a tight squeeze. I would never reconsider it though.........meaning I would run a tuffy again without hesitation.

The custom made wood console looks pretty good but I sure wouldn't be leaving my Canon 40D in it on the street like I do with my Tuffy. Security=Peace of mind for me.....might not be an issue if you live in a more rural area.

If one were to do a thorough search, one would find about a hundred posts from people complaining about the poor workmanship of the CCOT console...and about a thousand posts from people praising the tuffy console. Including mine.
