I WAS going to buy one of those. What a difference in locks. I would try to return it, Don't they have a materials and workmanship warranty?

Console

[Am I the only one who has this console?/QUOTE]

No, I think we are all embarrassed to admit we bought a POS like that.

hatchman :o

I've had a CCOT console in mine for years but I wouldn't buy one again. I don't like the fact that you have to open the whole top to turn the radio down. The locking mechanism isn't great either. I would definately buy the Tuffy if I did it again.

Can you take pictures of the locking mechanism like I did? I want to see if mine is bent or something. Have you tried opening yours up with it locked?

Today I pulled on my Center Console on my FJ40 that was locked, and it opened up. I did it from the sitting position with my backhand. I was super Pissed. Then I look at what is the locking devise and I'm disappointed by it.

This is the key side. It is shaped in a "S" shape. Why is it not a "U" shape? Or boxed for strength. Or "O" Shaped so it won't bend and let the other side slip by.

This is the other side which i think could be a little thicker

Is this the same as the Real Tuffy console? Anyone else have/had this problem?

I have the same unit and you can not do what I saw in your video. I looked at my lock and the part that is welded to the cover has a much thicker hook. The hook also is flat where the key lock tab sits over. On your unit there is no flat area and I would suppose that is why you can pull it off. I would say that CCOT should replace it.

The only good thing about the CCOT console is the mounting bracket that is made by Tuffy. Makes it easy to put the new console in I guess.
I pulled out that POS and replaced it with a Tuffy after not too long, got the Delux Radio model in charcoal, it lookie very nice. The CCOT sits collecting dust in one of my garage cupboards. Same crap locking mechanism on mine.

I'm confused about the flat area. Are you talking about on the picture that bend you have in yours? Or are you talking about the key lock side?

FWIW, the Tuffy is an amazingly strong product, you cant even crank on the outside with a set of vice grips, the lock is designed to spin around itself so you can't twist it open.

Pretty cool design. I got mine off ebay for a lot less than the stores.

So much nicer!!

I have been debating either hogging out my dash for the stereo or building something on to the front of my CCOT console that would allow access to the radio without opening up the top. I don't have to do either. That is exactly what I need. :D Now all I need is something for the hole in my dash.

Hey Steve,

How about putting this on the body and interior FAQ?

Well if it doesn't make that then I need to put it on the worst mods thread.

Always thought mine was a Tuffy (came with the rig), but the lock mechansimn looks similar to yours.

Gotta go out and see if it says tuffy on it anywhere.

The mounting adapter(the very bottom piece) should be made by tuffy.

I cut a piece of sheet metal, painted it black and siliconed it to the dash to cover the stereo hole. Looks great. Just an Idea.

UPDATE

CCOT sent me a tuffy and a return postage box.:)

Really?????

My tuffy center console, tuffy speaker boxes and overhead console are great. I would recommend their products to anybody.

Godd Stuff!
