I filled up half a tank yesterday. I'm getting 12 mpg (using the stock trip meter) driving it like I stole it in the city. That's already a little better than normal driving with the 2F. Highway mileage should jump up big time.

I'd bring the pig over this afternoon for you to look at it, and for me to check out your work…
But, I'm currently experiencing a fuel delivery problem that looks like I'm gonna have to drop the tank.

It looked like what he did to yours would be my worst case solution.

I think it all boils down to my tach signal not being strong enough. I have a few things to try, but I'll keep quiet for now. Can't bore Nolen!

Sounds like a personal problem Cameron. I hear doctors have the correct drugs to assist.

;)

I got that limp needle syndrome :crybaby:

well I know for sure you don't want your a/c compressor "hot-wired" where it stays engaged all the time...no-win to that. The compressor needs to be able to cycle. For now all I can say is mine works and another guy I know has a 60 with a 5.3 with basically the same setup regarding the noted wiring etc, his works as well (Rover67). There very well may be issues with the various ECMs that drive the 5.3's? What we have on the 60's is dependent on a tach signal to work...there may be various ways to generate that or modify a signal of some type...given you don't have a distributor and are dependent on ECM signals for the most part. If you have access to GM shop manual covering the 5.3...you might want to explore the source of the tach signal...

One LS forum poster thinks the pattern is drive-by-wire ecu's and newer need the signal boosted.

This explains why some work, some don't. It sounds like a common problem.

I'm on it.

on the fan shroud setup...this has worked well for me on my 5.7..

I got in a little city interstate driving this morning. The avg mpg's at 65 seemed to hover around 17, and dropped a little at 75.

So, while I'm getting better numbers than the 2F, it's still a big heavy brick. But a much quicker brick.

I would be totally stoked to get 17 mpg at 65 mph. Furthermore, I'd be super stoked to be going above 65 at all! Can't wait to drive a Vortec cruiser.:smokin:

Is that screen shot from your iPhone?

Yessir, it's a screen shot. At 55mph, I was averaging 20-22:grinpimp: (but who has time for that?)

I put the finishing touches on the crossmember. I added a second bracket on the other side of the frame rail, sleeved all the holes so the tube doesn't crush, and got it all painted.

Theses brackets are just some angle iron. I didn't really have much room for something beefy, nor the desire to make anything. These are really just for backup in case any of the bolts unscrew on a rock.

Also got the fan shroud started. I still need to fill in a few more gaps and drill new holes. I'm running the stock shroud, turned upside down.

I went with an inch of clearance around the fan (+2" bigger total), and have it covering a little less than half of the depth of the blades. (1/2 is optimal.)

Holy cow is that thing moving some air now. Before, you could feel it pulling a little through all the coolers and the condenser, but now you can feel a nice breeze and you can hear it flowing through, and that's just at idle.

I'm curious to see how this affects the trans temps. It was pushing 165-170 when it was getting warm out last week, and I don't think it was completely topped out.
